Personally I use No More Redshirts as an additional layer of protection (if only because I don't like ANY NPCs dying without my permission, important or otherwise):
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/23614
I'm not sure this can be fixed without reloading your old save. Even if you correctly resurrect her, the script which broke the quest on her death has already been executed. But if you really want to try it:
prid 0001B144
enable
moveto player
resurrect 1
Assuming that doesn't help at all, what's the output of this command?:
getstage MS11
That initial murder will never happen if some of the NPCs required later in the quest die early. Arivanya is one of these.
that first set of commands worked.
She was stuck on her back a first, but once I left the city and came back she was up and walking around her usual annoying self.
Thanks
Is there another NPC I should look for in the hall of death?
are you using the unofficial patches? if not pick the master lock on Hjerim
although the bugs section mentions things that may help otherwise.

oh ya just because it says resetai doesn't mean that will work. trustme it may though.
Surprisingly, UESP seems to reckon that resurrection should actually work in this case (and by "work" I mean "unbreak the quest" - it was already a given that you could get Arivanya mobile again), though you'll still have to spend a day or so away from Windhelm once they're back on their feet before things start moving.
You also need to visit Windhelm a certain number of times in total (moving away at least as far as Brandy-Mug Farm each time before returning), and you must enter through the main or dock gate (or fast travel) between 7pm / 7am.
That command doesn't do exactly what you think it does. If a script has been executed in regards to a certain NPC, recycleactor won't have any affect on the matter.
Truth be told, when reviving NPCs you generally want the original back on their feet - not a new or recycled version. This is the purpose of the 1 in the "resurrect 1" command.
Guess I just had to let her live for a few days before the entry-count log for the quest started.
