Is there any reason to use dagger instead of sword?
I don't see any advantages of using dagger when you compare it with normal sword. Sword does more damage, can stagger and if I'm not mistaking has the same speed as dagger. The only good thing about daggers is that they weight less.

Sneak attacks and better DPS when dual wielding with atleast 1 dagger. Basic stuff.

No, swords are slower than daggers.
Daggers are good because with a high level of smithing you can get them to the same damage of a mace + its speed.

With the Assassin's Blade perk (Sneak skill), sneak attacks with a dagger do 15x normal damage. That's nothing to sneeze at, especially if you've got a highly enhanced dagger with strong enchantments. Add in enchantments on your gear and/or potions that enhance one-handed damage (a dagger is still a one-handed weapon), and you're looking at a ton of sneak attack damage.

Perfect for the sneaky-stabby bastard playstyle.

In all honestly it doesn't really matter what weapon you're using. You really can't fail at all in this game so there's no point in even thinking about it unless you're roleplaying.

Actually if you have boss character and several minions, 1 strike kills on the boss can make the fight a lot better. On the other hand, 2 powerful swords can do a lot of damage very quickly.

Besides what has been mentioned, if you use a dagger in a stealth kill you can get a really awesome throat-slitting killcam clip.

And don't forget that with the Assassin's Blade Perk and the Dark Brotherhood gloves daggers do x30 damage on sneak attacks. And if you get smithing pretty high the amount of damage daggers do while still less than that of a sword is still high enough that you shouldn;t feel gimped in a fight becuse you have one.

Daggers can be best when Enchanted because they are Faster.

For example, More Hits with Enchanted damage outweighs the more trivial Weapon Damage.

So try this use of 2-Enchantments on each of 2-Daggers:
Dagger #1
- Absorb 20 Health
+ Paralyze for 5 seconds. (the Boss stops attacking you)
Dagger #2
- Absorb 25 Health
+ 31 Fire Damage

There are reasons to use daggers over swords, but none of them are so game-changing that they inhibit your ability to play however else you want either. I usually go with sneaky characters so the stealth archer and the shadow stabber are pretty common for me, both of which pretty heavily rely on the sneak bonuses applied, and even without things like the restoration loop it can get pretty broken (especially when a surprising amount of npcs/enemies in game could be staring directly at you in broad daylight as you steal their armor off their back and never notice if your sneak is high enough...nothing like the 3rd low level arrow to the head from 2 feet away and the bandit stares through your soul as he states "must have been the wind". Stealth alone leads to some interesting situations).

Overall though, if you prefer swords, just go with swords. There's not a lot of point to min/maxing Skyrim considering you can pretty much level indefinitely and if you really want to go with the "max" part of min/maxing the restoration loop has been known for ages. There's not a lot of need to care if this 7 damage dagger ends up with a higher dps than this 10 damage sword, they both make things perdy darn dead real quick, and largely come with the same combat concerns like the inability to stab flying dragons without patience, a shout, or switching weapons.

Sneak attacks, that's it. With a perk daggers deal x15 damage on a sneak attack. Which is x30 with the Gloves from the Dark Brotherhood. With Shadow Warrior, the final sneak perk, you can sneak attack in open combat, making any melee weapon that's not a dagger a significant downgrade in damage.

Stealth dagger is literally the highest damage in a single hit you can do. Otherwise daggers are a worse sword, and never have a real use.
