Delphine may not give you the party clothes, preventing you from putting them on to continue the quest.
no fix is listed however a console command for another bug at this point will probably work the same. keep the save right before using the command.
After Delphine takes your stuff and you exit the dialogue window, you may be frozen and unable to access your inventory, map, magic, or skill perks menu. You can access the start menu and fast travel but you will remain frozen. Pc22.png You can fix this with the console command, setstage MQ201 100
Another way to fix this is to empty your inventory before talking to Delphine at the stable.
From my experience you would be best to reload a previous save "Before you spoke to delphine in Riverwood" Also before starting the quest clear as many quest items as possible so that you can get an empty inventory and store most gear in your own safe storage.
As you have had difficulty with the quest you may need to allow skyrim to reset... before starting it sleep for a month in a small room then empty your inventory except for gear to give Malborn.
Then focus just on that quest.
Console commands to move the quest along may invariably cause many more difficulties including getting the sleeping glitch which will prevent your character from ever being able to sleep again. I experimented with the console commands for this quest in lots of ways and all the results meant I either ignored this quest or accepted my character would never sleep again..... or restart Skyrim.
So it may be a good time to check for loose scripts with "Skyrim script cleaner" or run Tes5edit to check for conflicts
Any particular reason for not trying that before posting here?
"setstage mq201 100" worked, thanks.
