For grass, I recommend using SFOs optional SFO on Steroids file if uisng SFO 2.0+ which allows you to edit your ini file to get more grass with less engine processing.
Do NOT use the SFO file on the main Grass on Steroids page, it is for a super old version and not compatible
I use SFO 2.0f combined with Verdant and Trees HD Skyrim Variation. Verdant uses the Grass on Steroids tweak. I haven't tried the newest version of SFO though.
You can always adjust your iMinGrassSize to improve performace and maybe use Optimizer Textures to reduce the texture quality so you can have better performance.

if it really annoys you, you should take a look at GoS Natural Edition (Vanilla Size).
this screen is with natural edition, iMinGrassSize=75

Actually used that originally! I find it amusing that it's difficult to find things in the tall grass - actually adds to the immersion for me! But good advice for those who would like to use the mod but do not want to go searching for that animal or bandit that they just killed. (Nice thing sbout GOS is that it is very easy to change settings to what you prefer.)
And, Banana Slayer, glad you got a mod that works for you and that you like!
