Archer or Mage follower?
The title pretty much says it. II'm a tanky class so I'd like a more supportive follower, one that heals and does little damage or one that deals out damage but no spells. It's between Faendal and Spelda. Please don't suggest other followers. Just want to know.

Archer or Mage?

[EDIT]: Ok, so u guys said mage, but i searched and there were better mages than *Brelyna*. There was Serana (I dont have Dawnguard), Aranea somethingmajigy and Illia. so?

I don't know who Spelda is, but she's GOT to be better than Faendal. Sven is better than Faendal, and Sven comes unarmed. Go Spelda.

LOL no idea mate xD. That's okay though, we got it straightened out now, and I had a good chuckle, hope you did too.

That said! Definitely Brelyna.

Regarding your edit: Illia is quite strong, and also an ice mage. What gives her an edge over Brelyna, in my opinion, is her mother's staff which you get while doing her recruitment quest. That thing is mayhem on a stick. Literally. In fact if you're interested is seeing what I mean I have a couple snaps of Illia laying waste to the entire interior of what WAS a bandit camp. During and post screenshot a cinderyard. They're on my profile under my Witcher 3 screens

So, if you keep the staff charged, then use Illia. Otherwise I'd still say Brelyna because she summons Atronachs along with her ice barrages. That could also mean the atronach gets in your way...matter of preference at this point I guess, but at least we've narrowed it down to mages.

mage followers are much more reliable, damn archers tend to be far from the battle and prance back and forth *swoosh* miss!.. mages can just machine gun their attacks.. jk lol

*get dawnguard, damn good dlc...*

Depends on playstyle.

Sneaky types need archer followers because magic is loud as ♥♥♥♥.

Others can be better off with mages.
The best mages I encountered are Marcurio(mercenary in Riften, caps at level 40, lightning bolt and chain lightning spells) and Serana(Dawnguard questline, no cap, apprentice destruction spells, vampiric drain, and raise dead spells).
Illia is very-very-very-very ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bugged.... it costed a LOT of my sanity trying to make her work. She also has Ice Storm spell which is a big AoE and it kills you if you are in the way of it... and in Skyrim there is a LOT of frost resistant mobs.

Marcurio also uses chain lightning, with aoe, and will end up getting you into fights with the entire town.

k, then he's off the list

In my next-to-last playthrough Marcurio got pincushioned by Katria because he accidentally zapped her with Chain Lighting. In another playthrough he got beaten to pulp by Erandur for the same reason :steamhappy: Maybe I've been lucky, but he never got me involved in any fights with aggravated NPCs: whenever he made a mistake, he paid for it in person :steamhappy:
