Would it be overall better then the Black star item or whatever? Since i'm mostly going to be fighting humans, and i heard they are always grand souls.
Black Star takes human souls which are grand level, with Azura's Star you can only fill to grand level with Mammoths and other grand level creatures, but not humans.
Alright, ill go ahead and use the Black Star then, Thank you.
When it comes to enchanting, most of your work will be training the skill, and going out and killing one thing at a time just doesn't cut it. You want to have a ton of gems, fill them all, then go back to base and grind out a whole lot of enchants at once. Empty gems are a dime a dozen so this is no big deal.
And by the time you get enough skill to actually make something decent, you'll likely be swimming in filled grand gems anyways, so the star is still pretty much useless.
If empty gems were still somewhat rare (as they were in previous games) it'd be a different story, but Skyrim makes them common as mud. Even black gems are pretty common.
Because...

So if you don't play with unofficial patches DEFINITELY get the Black Star, as it can collect any soul. IMBA!
