Gaius Maro isn't following his schedule.
His behavior has been rather erratic.

I decided to go to whiterun to wait for him, since that was the closest to my location when I got his schedule. For a while I was wondering if he was going to show up. Until around noon he just stood in place in the northern area of the rift. After using the wait command a few times, he showed up in dragonsreach. He then stood in the bannered mare for a bit. But after I used the wait command for the last time, he suddenly was well outside the city (it was about 10:00 at night). I waited another hour to see if he would come back, only for his map marker to show that he's now in Riften.

This is getting quite annoying. And yes, I have the unofficial patch installed. I don't get why he's acting like this. I don't know how I can complete his quest and get the bonus if I have no way of knowing where he's going to be or what he's going to do.

As for the bannered mare, he just stayed on the bottom floor until he suddenly teleported to somwhere around the Loreius farm. He never went to sleep like he should have.

Just kill him in the street and pay the 1000 gold fine next time you are in town with him.

No offense, but I would lose like half of my inventory if I did that. My character is quite oppotunisitic. Though I'll be honest, I have thought about just turning into a vampire lord and killing him along with any witnesses. I have actually done that before, though not on purpose (I was trying to get the achievement where you have a 1,000 gold bounty in every hold).

Sigh, now I'm trying to chase him around the map, as a vampire. My health is low, I have no magicka, a bear is in my path, and if I wait until nightfall, he'll teleport to some random location on the map. Right now he's supposed to be in markarth, but he's hanging around shor's stone for some reason. He seems to really like the Rift in my game.

I don't recall it being this hard when I did my unmodded SE playthrough.

IIRC, if you kill him in vampire lord form you won't get a bounty.

Only if no one sees me transform. I assume it works the same way as the werewolf transformation.

You should be able to provoke him into attacking you, no? Approach him and say something nasty about the Empire or his dad or whatever it is. Then it's 'oh no, that naughty man tried to kill me! Don't mind me, just going through his pockets, definitely not planting incriminating letters haha!'

Don't ask me why but you have to camp out location for a few days before the schedule is followed I camp Dragonsreach left of stairs by fire brazier watching main entry door in stealth, at about noon and use arrow to kill him

Are you using the default timescale? His schedule depends on that. If you changed it, his schedule is going to be messed up.

Open the console and type help timescale
if it's not 20, set timescale to 20 and leave it alone.

He walks (!) everywhere he's supposed to go. However, what I've found is that unless he starts out before 6am on the day he's supposed to go to Solitude, he'll get about halfway or less to where he's going, then turn around and go somewhere else.

I'm not sure why he's teleporting, unless it's something in the Unofficial Patch that tried to "fix" his long, slow walking.

Think I'll make a mod where he rides a horse like a person of his rank should.
Either that or add him to my Faster Escorts mod so he runs instead of walks.

I don't have any mods that alter the timescale or anything. I do have RDO, that's the only thing I have that alters npc behavior.

I managed to track him down (after diving into a cave to regen health). I found him in the middle of the woods killing wolves. I started following him, and he appeared to be making a bee-line to markarth, where he should be right now (its 2:00 PM on fredas, and he's still in the area north of Riften). But then he suddenly turned 180 and walked back to the road, then started walking south towards riften.

This is getting quite annoying. And he walks VERY slowly too. And he doesn't appear to be heading in any specific direction.

As for the teleport thing, it may be the game placing him where he's supposed to be at a specific time after I 'wait' for an hour. Then again, if that was the case then the game thinks he should be heading towards windhelm at 10:00 pm on Turdas, when he should be sleeping in the bannered mare.

I want to get the bonus for the reward. So no, I can't just off him right now and be done with it.

Honestly, what I'm tempted to do is select him with console commands so that I can then use the 'moveto' command to teleport him to a major city. That would be so much simpler than watching him slowly meandering around the map randomly just waiting for him to slowly meander into a major city, when he only really seems interesting in wandering around the rift.

By the By, you dont need to be seen doing it - he has just to die in a mayor city..

Honestly i usualy just use moveto too these days, im to lazy for messing around for hours just because its bugged out again :D

Sometimes it's just about timimg to catch him "in town".

I will arrive outside of Dragon Bridge right around sunset. Then proceed to where he gets his orders from dad and says bye bye girlfriend. A quick check of schedule as to where he is supposed to be the next day and go there straight away ignoring where he is or direction of his travel and wait for him and the opportunity to send him to Sithis. While I wait I can be having fun with the locals drinking, singing, getting laid and all that along with doing any "shopping" I need to do.

or as someone said above... just see what town he is in... use moveto command and then kill him if you prefer.

Well, I did that, and got a bounty in Riften even though there wasn't a single witness. Also, the dialogue to make him attack me wouldn't come up. In fact, I couldn't talk to him at all, he just kept telling me to go away.

I tried to kill all the gaurds, but that was obviously futile with the immortal Raven Blackbrire spamming shock spells at me. So I ran, and now I have a 2,000 gold bounty in Riften. No idea how I can do the thieve's guild quest later on with that.

And futher me, I ran into another glitch. I accidentally transformed into vampire lord form while trying to summon lechance. I reverted back, but then suddenly my character turned into a vampire lord again. Now, my favorites menu won't come up so I can select the power to revert. All I can do is look at my perks.

Yeah, that went well. I just closed the game and will wait for him to go to a city on his own. None of that was worth it. I ended up in a situation where I couldn't interact with the world anymore.

I don't even know why I keep trying to play this stupid glitch-fest of a game. I don't even get how anyone can play this game on console. If you don't have console commands to fix getting stuck or quests not working and whatnot, there's no way you could possibly play this game its so glitchy. Even VtM bloodlines is more stable than this game has ever been.
258789553873 Jul 16, 2018 @ 5:32pm
And then I try to play the 'game' like you're supposed to, only to find that he's just wandering around in circles. Seriously.

This is beyond stupid.

And no, I can't just use the wait command somehow until he magically decides to show up. I'm a vampire. Also, when I was in the bannered mare waiting for him to go to bed, he never did, he just wandered out of the city and down to where he is now, meandering in circles in the middle of nowhere.

Well, I managed to do the stupid quest. I decided to wait one hour, and suddenly he was outside markarth. I fast-traveled there, and he was still there. This time, I transformed into a vampire lord out of sight and then killed him (the first time I killed him with my bow). Now I have the stupid quest, and I'm not stuck in vampire lord form.

So I guess that's how you fix this: you use the wait function, and he'll be teleported to wherever he's supposed to be. Well, kinda. I found him wandering the streets of markarth late at night. Oh well.
