Thalmor Custody fails no matter what.

I'm doing Missing In Action, and no matter what I do, the second I go through the main entrance, the objective "Find a way to release Thorald from Thalmor Custody" shows up as "failed". What the hell?

I talk to the guy, no dialogue options let me go in peacefully. I try to sneak in, objective fails. I try to kill the guard and go in, the objective fails. What do I do?

I absolutely hate failing quests and quest objectives, it triggers me so much. I want to complete absolutely everything presented to me.

I'm siding with the Stormcloaks btw, in case that matters.

According to the wiki the proper resolution of the "Find a Way..." objective did not make it into the final version of the game: See http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Missing_in_Action. Unless you can find a mod that fixes this the only option is to kill them all and lead Thorald out of the keep over their dead bodies. You can complete "Missing in Action", but "Find a Way..." is unreachable.

Most bugs with this quest are fixed by the Unofficial patch (USLEEP). See Bugs section, http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Missing_In_Action
