No quests start when talking to Gerdur

when i talk to gerdur i say all 4 things and nothing happens... it still says talk to Gerdur whats going on how do i fix this?

Sometimes Gerdur will not have an option to ask about the dragon, causing the main quest to be frozen forever. One fix is to ask Alvor for supplies. After you look through his inventory, he will start by saying "There is something you can do for me, and the people of Whiterun..." Listen to him speak and he will mention to you that you should inform the Jarl of Whiterun of the dragon. After that, the quest will update. Similarly, Alvor may not have an option about the dragon, and the quest will not be able to progress. One easy way to remedy this to go straight to Whiterun and talk to the jarl. This will advance the quest.

are you sure this will work cause i don't wanna do the golden claw quest and go to the jarl to have it not work
