Augur of Dunlain
Does anyone know who actually is Augur of Dunlain, where did he come from, how did he change into this blob of energy, etc.?

The prevailing theory is that the Augur of Dunlain was a Reachman mage and achieved his apotheosis through some strange Reach-magic.

Evidence:

1.) The town of Dunlain is located in what is normally accepted to be the confines of the Western Reach, homeland of the Reachmen.

2.) The Midden is filled with animal remains arranged in the same manner seen in Forsworn camps.

3.) The only usage of the term "Augur" in lore is in the book Legend of Red Eagle, when the Reachmen augurs foretold Faolan's destiny:

The augurs foresaw the boy's destiny: a warrior without peer, first and foremost Lord of the Reach, chosen to unite all under his name.

The rest of that reddit post has some interesting speculation about the Augur being the cause of Winterhold's destruction.
