To test whether the follower actually has one, you can force them to equip it, by entering the console, selecting the follower with the mouse, then entering one of the commands
equipitem 461da
equipitem c334f
equipitem cdec9
depending on the version of the club.
To add a new club, with the follower selected, use the command
additem cdec9 1
(1 being the number of items added).
Alternately you can add a club in front of the player (and then have the follower pick it up):
player.placeatme cdec9
*
Stats of different versions of the Giant's Club (according to UESP Wiki http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Giant_Club#Giant_Club):
Frost Giant Club (Dawnguard): code xx012d14, dmg 80 (xx = plugin load order code)
Giant Club: code cdec9, dmg 5
Giant Club: code 461da, dmg variable - depends on player level
Giant Club: code c334f, dmg 40 + Absorb Stamina 15 pts for 1 sec
In fact there are several giants camps that have spare clubs lying around.
Such that you can actually play the game rather than just cheat everything.
I lost all of the Giant's Clubs I could find. That's why I'm "cheating," which isn't really cheating. It's not my fault my follower lost them.
