Is it just me, or does Blackreach suck?
Every time I hear the name, or go to it, a part of me dies.
It could be because the first time I played the game I went straight into it at level 14 or so, and died. Or it could be because the place is so massive it intimidates me, or possibly all the enemies. I'm not completely sure what it is, but I honestly hate it.

For anyone that doesn't remember, or know what it is, blackreach is the massive lit up colorful place with a bunch of giant glowing mushrooms, 1 or 2 dwarven enemies, falmer, chaurus, (and apparently giants), and a bunch of doors that lead to different ruins.

Then I'm guessing it's just me. I think Blackreach is neat, it looks nice, but something about it just has a terribly terrible feel to it.

It's kind of an acquired taste, but I have grown to like it. The first time it was just totally confusing (sense of direction has never been my forte :steamhappy:); yesterday I went through it for the umpteenth time and actually enjoyed exploring every corner of it.

I never knew how much I agreed with this until I read it. I hate how vast and intimidating it is.

What? the Black reaches are amazing, it's the best preserved Dwemer city i've ever seen, top that off with the fact that it's massive, has multible area's and buildings, a large peek into the lives of the dwemer and reveals that the falmer are MUCH smarter than we all gave them credit for, you see them human slaves yet? plus if you shout at the "sun" sphere down there, something cool and epicly dangerous will happen. :g:

I enjoy Blackreach. As far as vast dark places go, I'd take it over the Soul Cairn every day of the week, and even those days that aren't part of the week.

Plus, Soul Gems grow on trees down there! Well...rocks, but the point is there's a ton to be had if you bring a pickaxe :D.

I thought Blackreach was awesome. One of those things that came as a complete surprise. The first time I played the game, I was doing the main quest and was kind of annoyed with how huge it is because I've never liked exploring dungeons for quests that just drag on seemingly forever.

Then I was exploring another ruin some point later on and found Blackreach again, but not having a quest that I was working on, I felt much more inclined to explore the area, and found it very interesting.

I love Blackreach also. If you're doing a purest playthrough and you still want to craft, there's no better source for soul gems. If you're doing Hearthfires the corundum comes in real handy, and if you enjoy the "hunt" a few Falmer, Chaurrus, Trolls, and Spiders are just a little spice.

I think it's all mindset. If you're in a rush to do something it s*cks but it's still cool. If you put it off to a weekend, and can kick back, it's just plain cool. As for the Soul Cairn, I couldn't think of doing it without running through Blackreach first. You need a good stash of greater and grand gems to take advantage of it ... yeah, weekend ;-)

It's really awesome to me. I just wander around for a few hours, forgetting about all the hectic looting and questing.
IMO Blackreach, and all dwemer ruins are far too long IMO. You kinda lose interest after the 500th Falmer or Sphere and it just becomes a boring slog though enemies that do the same thing over and over again.

The only dwemer ruin I really enjoyed was Nchardak in Solstheim (and that was only because I had Neloth following me round). If not, I would have been just as bored in that ruin as any other ruin

I agree with this post.

I think it's related to Dwemer ruins in general and their length as someone else has said. It's hard to describe, but I just don't really like them. Perhaps it's because you know it will be the same enemies in the form of Falmer and automatons or maybe it's just the aesthetic.

You prolly hate Blackreach like me if you've done that 'grab 30 Crimson Nirnroot' quest. I get the feeling there were only 30 of them in entire Blackreach..

Found 33 after 2 days of just wandering around :)

I disagree. Let me say first: I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ HATE Dwemer ruins. I maybe completed 3-5 in my 350 hours total. They suck, they are too hard, meh loot, too long, boring asthetic just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ everything.

But Blackreach is different. It's like a second worldmap instead of a Dungeon, but if the Worldmap had anything really to do on it. That's the best I can come up with of an analogy, maybe it's just cuz of all the shrooms ;'''')))

The sense of wonder I had the first time I explored the Silent City is one of my best memories of my first Skyrim playthough.
