Console command doesn't work >< (additem)
Hello guys! Here's my problem: I am at the atronach forge and when I try to summon Daedric Boots, it doesn't work. The Item appears, but I can't have it in my inventory. After a few minutes of searching I read that this bug is pretty common and to fix it, I have to do things with the forges and the components to summon random pieces of armour. The (2nd) problem is that I have spent litterally 2 to 3 hours of farming to get all the components to summon the armour pieces and I don't want to spend 1 more minutes going all around the map looking for 1 more Item. I read that I could also simply use the counsole command to summon the item. I play it fair, I use the attronach forge, I use the Ebony Boots, the daedra heart, the centurion dynamo core and the black soul gem, I summon the boots, and I don't get them, and THEN I use the console command. BUT! It doesn't work. Here's exactly what I typed (exactly it. No capital letters added, nothing, this is exactly what I typed on my keyboard a few dozens of time.): "player.additem 0001396A".
IT DOES NOT WORK! I have no idea what I am doing wrong. Could someone help me? tried with other items, I looked carefully to make sure I just didn't spell something wrong but no! I have no idea why it doesn't work.

You have to tell it how many of them to give you.

Edit: ninja'ed

Edit edit: Just an fyi, leading zeros on the form id are not needed, for example
player.additem f 100
is the same as
player.additem 0000000f 100

not sure if this is the problem but with "player.additem 0001396A" you need to put {space} 1

i think? for the quantity?

Add item is pretty safe, just remember to NEVER use it to give your a quest or unique item.

Why that?
fauxpas Dec 16, 2018 @ 12:42pm
Because you'll break your game if you do, same with spawning games NPCs, ect.

A lot of times scripts are attached to the act of picking up the quest item from it's original location. Adding the item directly to the inventory bypasses these scripts resulting in things such as quest stages not being properly set up. So, only additem quest items as an absolute last resort.

Oh ok haha! That was exactly what I was about to do a few days earlier x) I was in Soul Cairn and one of the pages was glitched into the barrel (the 10th page I believe, I don't remember). But I didn't actually add the item, I just typed a command to complete the quest and I believe that everything went just fine :/
It's quite impressive that a game needs so many use of the console command to be played normally.

It usually does not need commands all that often, in the case of your last issue best thing to do would have been to leave the sould cairn and allow the area to reset. A quick way to do this would to coc qasmoke settimescale to 9000 wait 5 minutes to allow 30+ days to pass then settime to 20 and coc back to the soul cairn. the page should not be glitched into the barrel. Always finish quests without the console when possible.

Yeah. Using one line in the console command is a lot easier.

We'll see if you still think that as the tiny time bombs you've embedded into your save start to explode and you lose your save.

1: I will anyway eventually get bored and start over.
2: what time bomb? I completed one quest, and summoned 1 item because the game didn't want to work. My computer's not gonna explode chill.

Adding an non unique item is fairly safe as I already said, but using the console to "complete" a quest isn't safe at all as what said command does is set the quest stage but does not trigger the related scripts.

But whatever, just know that you've introduced instability into your save.

No, when I typed the command every quest related to this one items disapeared, the quest was completed and I got the reward. Nothing more. Was that a really terrible thing to do? I looked on the Internet to know what I should do if I was stuck in this quest and I read that, indeed, summoning a quest item is a very bad idea, but completing the quest via the console command is fairly safe.

... Its a known fact what the "set stage" command does and it should ALWAYS be the last resort because even the relatively safe ones mentioned in the wiki aren't "safe".

If it worked for you, it worked this time but walking across a busy street blindfolded isn't safe just because you didn't get hit by a car this time.
