Do equipment bonuses stack?
Let's say I got a 15% Smithing bonus on a necklace and 15% on gloves, do I have a total of a 30% bonus to my Smithing?
How about Magic Resistance, do those items stack?
Thanks

Sweet, thanks

One does not simply improve armor without 4 pieces of smithing gear, a smithing potion, and a restoration potion.

Lol, but Why the restoration potion?

Enchantments are considered restoration magic. So if you take a 50% resto potion, while wearing your smithing gear, it becomes more potent, on top of whatever smithing potion you take. It's the basis of the notorious restoration loop, but I generally keep it at one potion and done.

Right now my skill in Smithing is 87, would it do me any good to equip a bunch of Smithing gear, can your skill effectively be any higher than 100?

Yes. Even at level 15 smithing you can potentially make better improvements than at level 100 if you use enough fortify smithing apparel in the former case and none in the latter.

The restoration loop is an exploit that takes away a lot of fun in the game and is fixed by the unofficial patches anyway.

Fortify Smithing doesn't fortify your smithing skill as such, what it does is increase the amount by which you can improve an item at the grindstone/workbench (so it does more damage/is more protective).

It is a +(sum %) of the base stat. If combined with the notched pickaxe and black books the Alchemy/Enchanting>Smithing cycle is pretty rigged even without necromage and the black books.

Notched pickaxe won't boost smithing further than level 100 though.

Another little trick, if you have Dragonborn, is to wear Ahzidal's gear while you're enchanting your smithing gear.
DrSuperEvil Aug 28, 2016 @ 1:48pm
Yes Ahzidal's gear and the black book that you can switch between +10% alchemy and +10% enchanting.

There are caps on certain bonuses, if I recall correctly.
(or was it just a cap on how high a bonus can be on 1 piece of gear? I forget)

To my understanding, without the unofficial patch, it won't boost smithing at all.

But I can confirm that with the patch, it will boost your abilities even when your base skill is at 100. This is true of all crafting buffs, in fact.

... and +10% smithing.

Sorry for the necro, but this is the discussion that Google came up with, so I'll respond here.

I have a smithing of 31. I have boots that give +13% and a potion that gives +20%. I have the Elven Armor perk. According to the Smithing Qualities table in UESP, I need a 40 Smithing (with perk) to improve my Elven weapons and armor to Exquisite (quality level 3). With 31 +33% Smithing, I thought I'd be able to improve armor/weapons to Exquisite, but I only get to Superior.

What am I doing wrong or not understanding? :tokitori:
