Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti
I don't have money for a new card.

Will I be able to get passed the Low threshold that I'm stuck on and be able to play it at, at least High?

Damn, Ive been running a GT550 Ti for 4 years. On high without problems. You can compare with my screenies for 'Low End'. :D

I have a Nvidia GeForce GT 710; the GTX 550 Ti your talking has about the specs as mine, and even when I overclock it, I can't keep it from stuggling on low.

Must be the difference between the GT and GTX Line.

You might have something else going on. Im running the exact machine I built in early '12 to play Skyrim. My experience has been very near the same since I bought the game.

I5 2300
8 Gb RAM
NVidia GT 550 Ti
1 Tb HD

Nothing is overclocked, just upgraded to Win10.

Im using a 750ti. It can take you very far in skyrim.

Ultra, realvision enb, bit over 200 mods on multiple profiles, rock solid (had one CTD in the last 7 days).

Might be an old card but it is a workhorse.
