BSOD with Windows 10 help needed
I played successfully for months, but then at some point it would not longer work (presumably due to a windows update). I have a Dell Vostro 3550 with a Radeon HD6630M. The game crashes with the BSOD when I click Play from the launcher. The error I get when I use WhoCrashed is:

This was probably caused by the following module: atikmpag.sys (atikmpag+0x16D2D)
Bugcheck code: 0x113 (0x19, 0xFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF, 0x0, 0x0)
Error: VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR

I have downloaded and installed the latest Crimson driver. I have set TESV.exe to run as administrator.

Given that the game worked for months I know its possible to fix it to work again, but unsure what the steps are to solve this. Any help appreciated.

Sounds like a display driver glitch. Which Crimson driver? 16.7.2? IIRC after 16.5.2 the drivers have been fairly unstable though required for some applications and GPUs. You may want to look more yourself into the stable earlier drivers but it would be smart to roll back to one of them if you don't need the newer drivers.

Revert back to an older driver. Be sure to first uninstall all AMD drivers and software. This link is for Win7, but it is relevant.

I've got nowhere trying to fix this. I uninstalled each version of driver I had and then tested again. Eventually I had no drivers left except for the Intel HD 3000 driver and then the game worked. Now I can't figure out which is the correct Radeon driver that I need to install again. Do I need a windows 10 driver for Radeon 6 series? Sorry folks I'm completely lost.

I don't think it's the video driver ... I'm guessing, but DXgkernal sounds like part of direct X. I remember reading something like this in the threads (quite a while ago). I think you need to re-install / update directX

I don't have a link for you, but I'll chack and post one in a bitif I find one.

The only version I can get to install so far is 16.2.1. In device manager it says AMD Radeon 6600M and 6700M series. Not sure if this is an issue or not because my Dell spec sheet says I have 6330M?

Ok, I'll try a direct X update. Which version should I be running? I currently have 11.1

I think your windows update may have glitched the DX9 runtime version that gets packaged with the game.

this is a link to the final runtime version of 9.0c. And should cover the game.

Hope that helps

Edit - this is an old file. I would make a system restore point before running the installation

I found this discussion on the microsoft threads... it might help more than my guessing ;-)

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_install/windows-10-upgrade-error-c1900101-3000d/0de26073-0145-45a2-aec0-0f80ba58ce59

there were quite a few threads with similar errors... the DXGkernal file IS in fact part of DirectX but the error seems to be more in the way Windows 10 detects certain video chips during upgrades. I'm afraids you have some work cut out for you. The good news is it is fixable ;-)

@CFS111 didn't mean to step on your toes my friend, just found some newer links ;-)

I've come to the conclusion that I simply have the wrong driver. When I disable the Radeon driver in device manager, the game will run. When I disable the Intel driver, Skyrim launcher says I am using a MS standard driver. So, how do I find the correct driver for my laptop?

That is the one question I have no problem with ;-)

Go to the manufacturers website, enter the correct serial number / express service code in the download section and use that driver instead of the "updated" windows driver. Dell may have it's problems ... but their support section is pretty damn good.

Old school trick ... Go into device manager and change the driver for your video chip to "VGA" after you download the correct driver. Then install the correct one and remember to reboot afterwards

So you can't get 15.2 to install? 16.2 was stable for my newer GPUs but if your gpu is not supported by the driver version you've installed then you can definitely encounter issues.
