Question about getting a house early on
What's the earliest I can get myself a dwelling of my own? And where? I got a bunch of stuff I want to hold onto. I'm a hoarder...

the easiest house is breezehome in whiterun however joining a guild gives you free storage until you can afford the 5000 gold and the quest to get the dragonstone is done. you also need a couple more thousand gold for upgrades.

You could bring a bottle of Black-Briar mead to the Jarl of Falkreath at level 1, and get the quest for Lakeview Manor. (It costs 5000 gold as well)

why bother with a house if you haven't the money ? join the Mages guild or Companions as far as i know storage is safe until you can afford to build your own (Hearthfire) and have kids that demand money from you and bandits that slaughter your Bard

Wish you could apprentice the kids out. Or make them open trade stalls in the nearest city.

There's also Anise's Cabin; I usually get it after completing Bleak Falls Barrow, but you can obtain it even earlier. It has a bed, an alchemy lab and an arcane enchanter, plus a few safe containers. Only downside: any item you pick from the shelter will be marked as stolen.
