Mace, Axe or sword?
i recently started a new character based around the paladin archetype, and i am using one handed as a skill (among others obviously) and i can't decide whether i should use a mace, axe or sword. keep in mind that i am using the ordinator perk overhaul mod so the perks will be different from vanilla for each tree.

I like the idea of a mace, as it fits the paladin style, is associated with killling undead and i have an idea in mind for a powerful late game mace i could use, however, maces swing extremely slowly and with the difficulty mods i have i can't really afford to take a bunch of hits mid swing (i have the dual wield parrying mod to block with both hands occupied) so this makes using a mace kinda impractical.

next is sword: i do like swords, they are definitely very fast and i know of many unqiue swords i could use late game. however, the problem with swords is my last character used swords and i want a fresh playstyle.

Finally, war axes: war axes seem to be the best of both worlds as i haven't used them before with ordinator and they have medium swing speed. Unfortunately i can't think of any fitting powerful unique war axes (vanilla or modded) that i could use late game.

what do you think?

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Dawnguard_Rune_Axe

this would be the most powerful war axe in the game when it comes to undead.

what other weapons do you think would be powerful enough as a swor or mace? link mods and I might be able to help find equivalent mods for axes.

however in keeping with a paladin style I don't usually think of a paladin using axes. that is more of a barbarian/berzerker thing.
if i was going to use a mace i would have used the one in this mod:

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/73007/?

if i used a sword i would use one of these:

eltonbrand
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/67987/?

insanity's dragonbane
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/19180/?

skycutter
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/59222/?

or ice blade of the monarch

it is nice to see none of these are over the top powerful. just quickly looking there are some nice battle axe mods but no built in enchantments on them as well as some nice retextures of war axes.

I will do some more indepth searching. just thought I would touch in and say the mods you have linked are nice.

Why are Paladin's associated with maces? Paladins are knights, and maces are chivalric weapons, but then again, so are swords (but not axes).
haha thanks, i'm not a big fan of being ridiculously overpowered, i still want a challenge late game, for me it's all about balancing difficulty and feeling of achievement

Brandy I do not know why, but I can type here, the first thing that came to my mind after reading the OP was, Mace. And I do not play any other games that would be considered sword and sorcery. Very odd.

If we're talking about the base perks (unmodded)
Swords/greatswords are better : faster DPS, chance to crit. No contest.
Maces come second, with the armor penetration and stuff (if I remember this right).
Axes are the weakest of all, yes they are faster than maces but the extra damage with the bleed is extremely low and ridiculous.

If you don't want swords/greatswords take maces/hammers.

Because of the idea of paladins judging and punishing the guilty etc, hence the hammer of the judge/hammer of justice and stuff.
At least that's how I see it.

Paladins are trasditinally used like knights, so sword and tower shield or greatsword and, where appicable, mounted combat. There's also the holy weapon of your chosen god, as you'll almost certainly use that.
And it's clerics, not paladins that traditionally use blunt weapons only, but thats not been in any rp rulesets that i know of for a while. Though i'm sure someone'll correct me.

If you are gonna dual whield, use sword/mace, as it is the best setup out of the six. as for existing weapons, I reccomend using the dawnguard rue axe and the dawnbreaker or the mace of molag bal and the dawnguard rue axe. from default only the axe perks are worthwhile (propably meaningless, as you have the overhaul) if you go enchanting, use stahlrim mace and sword with chaos damadge.

actually, its the other way around. the crit only does a little under 10 extra with a fully upgraded dragonbone sword, and the armor penetration is pretty useless as no enemy has that much armor to begin with. It´s all properly explained in this vid:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJEdi2WzkLc you may wanna skip ahead to 7:45, which is where the weapon specifics are explained. though it is a good idea to watch the whole thing as it is very broad and helpful.

AD&D. Paladins fight undead, which are vulnerable to maces, and resistant to swords

looking through nexus there really is nothing for war axes beyond what you might find in immersive weapons. battle axes do have a few mods but nothing I think is as good as the mods you linked. most are just retextured.

Really like the enchantment on Eltonbrand and the look of Skycutter.

i'm not dual wielding, i use 1h in right hand and resto spell in left hand, i use the dual wield parry mod to block. I'll have to watch the video another time, but thanks for the link.
