Eldergleam Sappling not planted?
I did the quest and went with the sappling. It's been a few days (gametime) and the old tree is still there. Is it bugged?

You retrived sap, not a sapling. The old tree has come back to life from the sap. The leaves should all be golden/green and look alive.

Have you talked with the priestess of the temple? Can't remember her name. That's how I always complete the quest, I want to see the new tree, and it does gradually grow over months of game time. There should be a marker on your map for the quest, indicating the priestess. Once you talke to her, she will agree you did the right thing and the sapling takes the place of the old tree.

Don't forget to talk to your other follower, it makes a difference. (not a spoiler, I hope)

I brought back the sapling and what I see so far looks like the tree is growing leaves. But it's only been one day. No bugs encountered, though.

Sometimes the devs get too clever for their own good, and it looks like a bug until you figure it out. ;-)

Does the original tree not have leaves at all? Because the one now has leaves so I'm thinking it grew already, I just never saw it as a sapling.

There are some mods that adress the tree. And make it regrow.

It's ok with me if it is not seen small, as long as it ends up green. 8-)
