Skyrim crashes when I open inventory
As the title says, Skyrim crashes whenever I open the inventory, it's so annoying, the game runs normally util I open inventory, whether I open it when pressing tab or 'I' the game just crashes, Skyrim runs perfectly on my laptop with as many mods as I want, does anyone know what this problem is and how to fix it?

1. Does it crash even if you start a new game? Try a male character.
2. Have you installed the Crash log plugin?
3. What's inside your inventory? Try again with an empty one. The console command "removeallitems" can empty any inventory.

Also, if you go through the guide mentioned above, start with beeing female, then move onto the replacers.

1. Did you install, or, Divines forbid, uninstall any mods recently?
2. How many items are there in your inventory?
3. Verifying the game files may solve the problem
4. Also, post your load order (list of mods)

Try to reinstall the replacer mods one by one and see if it helps. You could also install this SKSE plugin and post its output here.
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/106929
It may point to the problem, which is likely a corrupted mesh or texture. The file verification only affects vanilla assets, not the ones added by mods.

That's not a sorted load order. You need to sort you load order with LOOT. The fact of it not being sorted may or may not be causing the issue - however, it needs to be fixed (for example, the Unofficial Patch should be immediately after Dragonborn, and Alternate Start should be at the very bottom after everything.

For information on LOOT, see:

(from PINNED TOPIC Helpful Links and Reference, Section 3, Tools, Load Order, and Mod Cleaning.

Fortunately, you have a small build, so if you need to test, it should be relatively quick and easy. Follow this general outline for how to go about it:

Good luck and let us know how things go, VorxBix.

EDIT - And though some people swear by crash logs, for the most part, and certainly for the average player (and even for the more experienced ones), and from personal experience in the Skyrim forums helping people with their issues (both here and in SSE forum), they are pretty much a waste of time and not much help.

Though if Alex is willing to take a look at it, why not.

Thanks for the help with my load order, I opened the inventory again in the game to see if it worked, this time it hovered in the inventory for around 10 seconds before crashing, before it crashed immediately so I think I'm getting somewhere, thanks for your help, I will continue my search on fixing Skyrim

I still doubt that the issue lies with the load order. It never hurts to run LOOT, but the problem here might be a different one.
By the way, do you have any unlisted mods, meaning pure replaces without an .esp file?

You could try the following approaches:
1. Deactivate a mod, start a new game, and see if the inventory starts working again. Then, repeat it with the next one.
2. Reinstall the mods one by one, it may fix the issue.

I'm also willing to look at that log, this SKSE plugin is actually pretty good at spotting errors due to corrupted files.

Does it crash as you scroll through the items? Or does it crash no matter what. If the crash is when you scroll through your item, it might be worthwhile to make a note of which item you are trying to view when it crashes. If it does crash only when trying to view a specific item, then you just need to know which mod is adding or changing that item. If it is a crash as I described (item specific) there could be, as Alex said, a problem with the mesh, or, in very extremely rare cases, even with the texture.

Agreed - I don't think the load was the issue either - more likely a mesh or even possibly a texture - but ensuring load order is correct is a basic and essential thing, so should be taken care of first before testing further.

I think you are on the right track with mesh or even possibly texture, though.

As far as testing, that's covered in the linked thread from Helpful Links.

Hmm, additionally to that, if the game crashes ONLY when you try to open an inventory that's filled through levelled lists (chests with loot, or merchant's inventories), then the issue might be with a specific type of mod. Namely, the ones that distribute items through scripts by adding them to specific levelled lists. I think that "beeing female" does that, and mini needs might do this as well. Their MCMs should have functions to reset or reaplly those changes.

Maybe it's an issue with SkyUI itself? Reinstall it just in case. Also, how are your mods installed, with steam, a mod manager, or even manually?

Mabye it is Skyui, I got it from the steam workshop so I'll try getting it from nexus instead

Yes, installing mods from steam's workshop is generally not recommended. Unsubscribe, then get it from the Nexus.

I am going offline for now - but you are in good hands with Alex. I have subscribed and will check back again once I am back on Steam. Hopefully, by that time your issue will be solved, VorxBix! Good luck!
