Greybeards Frost troll conundrum
Normally when I do this run, I just go around, however, to get into the RP of the story/lore, I realized that many people take the 7,000 steps (for whatever reason)

My question is this: How do they complete the 7,000 steps and miss the troll? If there is more to this story, do not spoil. If not, is this just a bad story aspect.

My initial impression of this part, is that if you cant get past a troll to see the grey-beards, you are not worth their time. And this makes sense (Lots of movies follow this trope) however, it does not explain the citizens that make this trip.
Or are they going up a different 7k stairs?

fun note: There is a Kajjiit that thinks the 7k stairs is a fallacy, check that quest if you can find it :-)

Interesting fact, Frost Trolls can move about......
Just assume the Frost Troll has wandered onto the path randomly rather than being a permanent fixture.

It's function is to troll the player, obviosly. The NPCs wouldn`t get this reference, so it sees no reason to show up for them.

Yeah it's just the player that runs into it, presumably it's wandered elsewhere when others go up there and doesn't just sit there forever.
Basically it's supposed to be a "random encounter" for the player but game mechanic wise it's not random.

i always have fire magic so that troll is never a threat to me, but dragons can also land there

Hmm thank you for some of the responses. Kind of seems counterintuitive for experiencing a lore in a game as big as skyrim. And then adjust the gameplay mechanics just for the player specifically and ignore the npcs. If the NPCs are going up the 7000 steps for whatever, it stands the reason that they would be a victim of the RNG of the troll as much as the player would. Of course I'm just speaking story-wise of course. I do understand the game mechanics is in place to challenge the player. It just doesn't coincide with the story as a whole.

Hi, thank you for your response however the question does not pertain to how to overcome the troll. I understand anything cold is a good weapon against the troll as well as a dragon. But reread the op

I agree to a certain point, but then why add in the story of NPCs climbing these stairs? Kind of defeats the purpose if they are magically immune to the troll

Troll is always there.

People who go to areas with trolls know they are very weak against fire.

You can get past it without fighting. Rocks/ cliff on left hand side before you reach him, you can jump up and over. Keep your eyes on it, as soon as past it you have to jump down and up and over other side until you see its safe to use path again. This confuses it as it will try to follow over the cliffs.

Troll is always there for the player...... there is always the possibility that the troll moved into the area the time you go up there for the first time and that other people simply never encountered it.

You can just jog past it.

I think there's a confusion to my original post. I played this game since 2011 I know how to get around the troll. Or kill it for that matter. That's not my question. Please read the original posts.

The original post is basically pertaining to story and lore. Not a strategy to get past the troll.

The greybeards rely on having supplies delivered to them. If the troll was always there you would arrive to find the greybeards dead of starvation.

Yes, and the story and lore is that like any animal or wild beast, the frost troll just happens to be there for the player, but not anyone else. It's a game mechanic mini boss basically, that doesn't just sit there waiting for people lore wise.

Chances are it's simply passing through as the player comes by.
The dragonborn is in the wrong place at the wrong time.

That's what I meant, the troll specifically aims to troll the player, since only the dragonborn would get this reference. The NPCs obviosly have no access to the internet, and therefore, they wouldn't get the joke, so the troll sees no reason to ambush them. Such is the sad life of the average Skyrim troll.

this is true - so what is the villagers secret? anti-troll spell? amulet of troll resistance? your on the right track - NPC's deliver food. However, you have to assume (role playing here) that the troll does not 100% avoid NPC's but come out for the PC only.
