Blood on the Ice- Can't ask Court Wizard about Amulet

Title self explanatory. Plus, loading older saves finds that I don't have the amulet, it's disappeared. I tried giving it to myself and that didn't help. I don't want to imprison the Wizard, but that seems to be my only way to further this quest. How do I fix this?

This quest can be so buggy. Did you finish the civil war between the Stormcloaks and imperials cause it can be bugged if you side with the imperials

i double-checked by opening the pickpocket menu on calixto, he has it in his inventory. so i guess that solves the problem of where the amulet is.

i also tried re-talking to the wizard after doing this, and nothing.

Hate this quest, the worst bugged quest in a game full of bugged quests. Now I've got that off my chest...

I recall years ago the same problem. I didn't talk to the Butcher fixated woman first as I recall but took the amulet direct to Cal.

If the only thing to do is accuse the Wiz, do so. He gets released in the end and doesn't hold it against you in the rest of the game.

Well, he never did with me the one time I did accuse him.

But given this is the most bugged quest of all bugged quests in a completely bug bloated game, I guess anything could happen...

Before you hit up the mage, talk to Viola or whatever her name is, the lady wandering around talking about the killer. IIRC, once you talk to her, you should be able to go ask the court mage. Also, make sure you read all the journals.

I think you also need one of the butcher warning leaflets in your inventory when you see her.

you were right! i guess i went back in an old save to before i talked to her, without realizing it. i found her, talked to her about the butcher, then went to the wizard and could finally talk about necromancy. if any more bugs happen, i will post here.
