Riften Massacre

Fast traveled to Riften, saw like 12 guards killing 1-2 other guards (not spies, they were named "Riften Guard") then they proceeded to kill Ingun, Maven, & Maul (Maven & Maul are essential so they'll infinintly fight). This doesn't really hinder anything to me besides a few side quests. Just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this or knows how the ♥♥♥♥ this happened.

EDIT: I've reloaded this a couple times and one time they said "Vampire! Burn it!", but they still attack Maven, Ingun, and Maul for some reason. (Maven almost everytime purposly attacks a guard whos not the vampire and Maul has randomly attacked the guards even after the vampire/guard has been killed).

EDIT 2: I fixed it by attacking Maul (he was the only one around) and he became passive and attacked no one.

Up until I got the Civil War Overhaul mod the only people in Riften I've seen the guards attack were bandits, vampires, and the thief. Seeing how you mentioned the bit about spies I suspect you have a mod causing this. The only other possibility I can think of is that someone from one faction accidentally hit someone else from another faction, which then causes both factions to be hostile to each other.

I suggest posting your load order so someone can maybe see what's likely going on.

This happened to me a few times with CWO installed. The guards + NPCs attacked a spy and one of them accidently hit another. It was amusing to watch Maven get beat down continuously. Just have to leave the area and let it reset so they go back to normal.

Vampire attacks can cause it as well with the accidental hits. Run for your Lives + When Vampires Attack used together will help alleviate most of this. Especially with nonessential NPCs dying. They tend to run inside somewhere and hide.
