"High End PC" Experiencing frame rate drops
Hello fellow modders/Skyrim enthusiasts,

So I’m looking for some help; for the most part my game runs smoothly but I keep running into some serious FPS drops that ruin immersion for me and make it unplayable. After weeks of tweaking and trying to fix a few things I haven’t quite got it taken care of. I’m using LOOT to sort my mods and I’ve also used Wyre Bash and set up ENBoost (not using any ENBs). I rarely ever had CTDs but let me explain the main issue.

For the most part, if a heavy rainstorm occurs I would begin to notice a FPS drop (game starts to slow down). I turned off Anti-aliasing and that seemed to do the trick, everything was fine until I walked into Shadowgreen Cave (Cavern?) Upon entering I experience a massive frame rate drop (literally unplayable). I notice that if I swing my field of view around back at the entrance, my frame rate goes back up, also if I look straight at the ground it goes up, but not when I’m looking into the cavern. I’d like to play with AA on because I figure my rig should be able to handle it, but I’m thinking it is my ini’s that need to be properly set up for my system.

Can someone please help? I’d like to be able to enjoy Skyrim to the fullest, but I keep having these framerate drops that break it for me. I’ll keep checking back for comments and I’ll let you know if what you’ve suggested works. Also, if there are any recommendations for swapping out mods (say if someone feels the problem is that my system can’t handle certain mods), then I’d be willing to give it a try. I really just want to play an immersive based play through.

Computer Specs, ini files and mod/load order list below.

Also, if I'm posting in the wrong place, forgive me. I'm just desperate for help after all the time I've spent fiddling with it :(.

Thank you in advance!

Sorry, but with a 750TI, you don't have a high end computer. That's pretty much the low end card for that series. only the standard 750 is worse. You're probably going to have to live with some performance issues with that one, especially if you expect to use hi res graphics. You might want to consider removing those texture packs.

Drop all your weather mods and get climates of tamriel its the best one make sure all your moads are compatable make sure you have all the patches you need, deadly combat is known to cause bloat on your saves it may not be the issue but keep this in mind, wet and cold I believe causes allot of performance issues I would research the posts, whats the cloaks patch for?

The high res texture packs are crap and have been known to sometimes cause more issues then the modded texture packs looking into skyrim 2 k and 4 k, try 4 k first if its to much lower 2 k it may not have anything to do with your pc.

Enchanced light and fx may be causing your problem btw it may not be working with your weath mod right I would google whats recommended to use climates I forget as right now im playing enderal.

What have you actually changed in your ini settings?

If you want a lower kind of enb try I cannot believe its not enb and imaginator they are both great there are plenty of enbs that will run great on lower machines though.

Also are you using mod organizer and loot?

Sorry, but with a 750TI, you don't have a high end computer. That's pretty much the low end card for that series. only the standard 750 is worse. You're probably going to have to live with some performance issues with that one, especially if you expect to use hi res graphics. You might want to consider removing those texture packs.

My apologies, I did not mean to mislead, I thought my setup was pretty decent high endish. I didn't know that the 750TI was so bad. I mean, for the most part my game looks beautiful and runs smooth, it is just those few occurences that I mentioned in my OP.

So your solution is to remove my texture packs even thought the game runs smoothly everywhere except for Shadowgreen Cave? (Resolved the weather issues when I turned off AA).

Thank you!
as stated above the 750TI is okay for standard but start putting mods on your going to need some more grunt, at least 2G of VRam you could try using SSME or the SKSE equal but that card won't perform very well with large textures you could try this (old) guide for ini editing http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/guides/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-tweak-guide#1 try using Afterburner to see just how much resourses your game is using

You may not have to get rid of the textures, but you're throwing way more graphics enhancers into the game than your card can really handle. You're going to need to turn something off at least.

My main problem is within Shadowgreen Cave; I seemed to have fixed the weather issues when I turned off AA. Cloaks of Skyrim is what cloaks is IIRC. I actually have Skyrim 2k, I think. I followed Gophers mod video where he downloaded the free high res packs and then supplemented them with 2k.

As far as ini files, a few things here and there. Tweaking things with the vram settings and some other things, mostly following S.T.E.P. NOTE: When I first added ENBoost my game was like 3x speed so I followed some guide and adjusted some thing(s) in the enblocal and then my game went back to normal speed.

Thank you for your reply!

Sorry I didn't state this in the OP. I am using SKSE. I guess I was just overestimating the 750TI. Its just weird though, everything has been smooth, its just that darn cave....

Afterburner? Sorry, I'm a noob with this stuff; more or less.

I'm guessing that it might have something to do with the lighting in there. Dumping the ENB might be worth a try. Or anything else that deals with lighting.

I'm not actually using an ENB, just ENBoost for the expanded memory hack thingy. I was just running around in there (very slowly) and I think it has something to do with the sheer amount of grass and trees, there is also a flowing river. I really like pure waters and I thought skyrim 2k wasn't going to hit so hard (like I've said, I'm fine virtually everywhere else I've been).

I'm thinking if I can some how figure out how to adjust the settings for tress and grass I'd be set.

My 3GB OC'd 780Ti experiences frame drops and stutters at times in various areas around Skyrim still. My hope is that when the 1080Tis come out I'll be able to experience 0 drops ever.

It's in part hardware but I believe a lot of it is just an engine that isn't designed to handle all the extra visuals we're asking it to render and maintain. It's 32bit for pete's sake!

Throwing hardware and money at it will help but it only goes so far.

A 750 TI is far from "high end". Nowadays it's more like subpar. If you're using any enb's, weather mods, lighting mods you'll get a lot of fps drops.

Only real advice I can probably even give is alter some settings in the main game launcher and change some settings in the enb menu you know shift+enter. I also recommend adaptive v-sync or just go with unlocked.

OR you can just lock it to 30 fps and not ever worry about fps drops.

Just to confirm what has been said, the 750ti is a low end graphics card. It will work with vanilla Skyrim OK but that's about it. Anything higher will produce stuttering. (I have used one in the past.) Your cpu is medium performance but fine for Skyrim.

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

So reduce some draw distance and turn off just about everything in ENB. Or run at a lower resolution and/or FOV.

As a comparison, I use a gtx970 now and with heavy graphics mods it only gets 40fps with an i7 cpu.

No problem try turning off the texture mods if your using mod organizer this is much easier and see if there is any improvement but first try to replace those weather and lighting mods.

And remember check out I cannot believe its not enb 1 2 and 3 and imaginator, they look really good for not being an enb.
