Alteration tips?
Was thinking of role playing a swordsman who uses alteration as his "Swordsman Spirit" Rurouni Kenshin reference. His will to takes hits and keep on fighting (iron flesh etc.) and the Shin no ippo (Paralyze spell) to strike his opponents with paralyzing fear.

How do you guys use Alteration?
Do you prefer using robes and the mage armor perk to really on flesh spells for armor? Or do you use light/heavy armor and use flesh spells to add a little extra protection?
Which do you prefer and why?

if you use armor and select all the appropriate perks and temper your armor you should be able to max any armor available. at that point shield spells are useless. But by using light armor and not selecting any perks and not doing any tempering the armor can still protect a little for when you are surprised unless of course you walk along casting detect spells constantly.

I have done both no armor and limited armor with shield spells. You may want to think about cloaks as well to representa draining effect. cold for movement and stamina, shock for magicka and fire for health. not much damage but cheap as your magicka and skill rises. cast together they protect and damage, not a bad combo.

not knowing who Rurouni Kenshin is I can not give any particular advice on how to model him better. you may want to look into immersive weapons, immersive armors, Complete crafting overhaul remade to get a look alike sword and possibly clothing. maybe even some armor clothing. I did google a pic. this is if you want to mod your game.

I would have answered alot sooner but sometimes steam hates me.

I don't get a lot of use out of alteration, at least, not the spells. I do dual-wield max-power paralyse enchanted blades, and have 100% alteration spell cost reduction spread across three bits of equipment (allowing me to use the weapons without any need to recharge them).

In terms of defense, I wear ancient nordic simply because I decided I like the look of it (as CM above mentions, once you've got sufficient crafting skills the difference between one suit and another is pretty much cosmetic).

I do stack elemental and magical resist enchants, however. In theory 100% spell absorption would be best, but in practise resists reduce damage to the point where it doesn't really matter.

Apart from the transmutation spell, I don't.

I use the transmute spell for leveling smithing and early gold. I use the paralyze spell for enemies that are resistant to poisons. Telekinesis is useful for stealing stuff and leveling alteration. The magic resistance perk from the alteration tree is a must.
