Then choose vampire or Dawnguard. Play until you get tired of it, then reload previous save, and play as the other.
You can then switch between saves as vampire or Dawnguard, whichever you prefer.
You can also play this game more than one time. Play as a vampire. Then start a new game, play as Dawnguard.
Volkihar Vampires are more tactical, you need to plan how you are going to fight with them, and their abilities are fairly weak until you put enough points into the Vampire Lord skill tree. You can die quite easily as a Volkihar Vampire.
Also be aware that ordinary Vampires are weaker still, they have no skill tree, just some persuasion abilities, avoid turning into a regular vampire.
Better Vampires mod let's personalize vamps to your taste. I don't even bother with vampire lord form.
Long term vampire lord is better than werewolf because necromage boosts your enchanting to insane levels (70% weapon boosts that become 83%) although normal vampires also have that.

You don't even have to cure it if you don't want to as there is no downside really other then the sleeping buff never happening and you can always become it if you want but it's not usually worth it.
Then do the questline of the dawnguard until you return serana to the castle and have a save there and I would go with the dawnguard for your main game as it's easier until you get used to the game enough and once you finish as much of it as you want go the vampire way or to just try both to see if you like one more then the other.
It can be tricky going the way of a vampire because of the downsides of it until you read up on it and are more ready for it.
go with whatever you feel is right for you or your character.
personally I enjoy being a vampire. not being a vampire lord form though. I enjoy using my enhanced sneak and Illusion skills.
there is no reason to choose vampire or werewolf though. play 1 questline and then play the other.
I do not like the werewolf form at all. the higher level you get the werewolf seems to get weaker than you can achieve in your normal form with enchantments, etc. The same can be said for the vampire lord as well. do 1 or the other as quickly as you can to max their relative forms.
1. if you choose to go with the vampires, you can still be cured later on.
>>>>even if you're cured, the Dawnguard will still attack you.
2. If you choose vampire, the Dawnguard will attack you randomly .. out in the open anywhere at anytime including in the cities and this can be a real pain in the backside especially if you have any collateral damage that gets other people involved.
3. Other vampires will still be hostile toward you.
3. If you choose Dawnguard, the vampires will still attack you, but not nearly as openly since they are mostly nightcrawlers and cave dwellers.
4. With the right dialog, you can convince Serana to cure herself of vampirism.
(She goes to the same wizard who you would go to for the cure).
>>>>She is still accepted by the Dawnguard and she still retains her powers.
>>>>She's a decent follower, but sometimes she gets in the way.
