Buy House or build Homestead?

Just wondering what you guys like. Do you know if all the homesteads are the same size or if house is the biggest?

I buy all the houses and build the 3 homesteads as well. All the houses vary in size and number of rooms. The homesteads are all basically the same with minor outside item differences but you can build different rooms onto them if you choose.

lakeview manor has a neat view, and the children seem happiest there. also, it may just be the illusion from building them ground-up, but I feel like homesteads are often larger

I think the largest house available is in Solitude, it's massive. (Although it might be the Dwemer "house" in Markarth though)
But for the sense of accomplishment in building a home for yourself, can't do much better.
I've built homes in three holds, got the land baron and architect achievements for it.
Of my favorite locations, Lakeview Manor ia a sweet spot.
Basically, all the homes you can build are bascially the same (with their variations) unless it's a special mod home. (Although if I were to do that, I'd design one myself because I know of a sweet place to build it).

I prefer the Hearthfire homestead in falkreath as a first home. Homesteads can be all in one crafting bases unlike most houses (solsteim excepted) and have plenty of chests for storage. The garden and greenhouse allows for making early gold to fund construction and later for making useful potions. When gold is no longer an issue I get all houses.

Yes, that's Lakeview Manor. I agree that it's probably the best

Constantly gets bandit raids or an angry giant leaning on the door but it is convenient and not has hard to unlock as the others.
