Where's my follower?
I'm playing on the special edition. Level 23. My follower is Mjoll. I'm in Markarth doing the Forsworn Conspiracy quest line. After destroying Napos' and his house guest I went back to the shrine of talos. Upon entry the cutscene started with the guards and I agreed to go to jail. After my jail break with
Madanac I went back looking for her but she's nowhere to be found. I went to Riftin hoping she was there but I only found Aerin alone sitting at the table in the bee. I tried getting another follower but it said I already have one. Is it possible she's taking that long walk home or is she gone forever? I'm not using mods nor do I wish to on my first ever playthrough

Open the console with the ~ key (this doesn't disable achievements) then type
"player.moveto 00019DF7" without quotes, this command will teleport you to her, wherever she happens to be.

I've read that waiting a few days in one location can make them appear near you again or be reset back to their location. But I haven't tried it myself.

She left you for the cloud district guy.

Or, to have Mjoll move to you, open the console
Type: prid 00019DF7
Hit Enter
Type: moveto player
Hit Enter
Close the console
This will but Mjoll next to you.

(sometimes, as Poil said, waiting a few days may also work.)

I hate to be a big BABY

but I HATE CONSOLE COMMANDS

I use NFF and don't have this problem...I wish someone had come up with a non CONSOLE COMMAND solution

(everything the above people said is true...but I HATE CONSOLE COMMANDS)

Well if you're not using mods and don't want to resort to console commands what do you expect OP to do?

Read that last line...Do you see what I said ?...I SAID THE THINGS PEOPLE TOLD OP ARE TRUE (RIGHT)

JUST WISH THERE WAS A NON CONSOLE COMMAND SOLUTION

I might try loading in an old save before I lost the follower...that's how much I HATE CONSOLE COMMANDS...maybe wait first (see if they show up) then load an old save

That's odd. When I did this with Aela as my follower, she showed back up right before the fight outside the exit. That being said, I also murdered the three Markarth guards at the shrine before walking outside and letting myself get arrested.

Check the Shrine of Talos to see if Mjoll is in there.

Skyrim is an absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of a game. It's still good, but pulling out the console to fix ♥♥♥♥ doesn't exactly "ruin" runs like it might for other games.

It really all depends on the command, some are deemed "safe" while other are almost guaranteed to break the game. The most important factor when using a console command is using it correctly. Improper and frequent use of the commands it likely to cause issues.
