Contract: Kill Narfi - Bug

[Under Your Bed]

I can't kill this guy. He goes into the crouched position, but doesn't actually die. I've tried arrows & my dagger, sneaking & not sneaking also tried talking to him first.

I need to kill him as it's part of a few quests given to me by the Dark Brotherhood.

It doesn't make a difference if he is outside or inside a house or whether it's night or day either.

What can I do to fix this?

looks like you have a mod that made him essential. you can try to set him unessential via console

This is weird as in my previous playthrough with a different char I killed him. I haven't added any more mods since then.

Is he related to the Thieves Guild in any way or any quests given?

I've joined them plus the Dark Brotherhood so maybe that's why it's sort of conflicting? Maybe I need to complete a quest I haven't yet recieved from the Thieves Guild fiist before killing him for the Dark Brotherhood?

afaik he is not associated with thieves guild. only DB and his own little quest with his sisters necklace.

you could just try this to find out if he is essential:
"To check whether an NPC is essential to begin with, select him/her in the console (so that the ref ID appears), and enter IsEssential - if the console returns "1.00", the NPC is essential."

Try completing the quest "The Straw that Broke", you initiate it by talking to him. once that's done he should be unessential.

I'm having the same problem with another quest. Blood on the Ice. I need to investigate the crime scene & get Jorleif to help, but I can't. Nothing happens at the crime scene & there's no dialogue option when speaking to Jorleif. So I assume it's another bug maybe.

Blood on the ice is awkward, loads of bugs, you need to google that one to get all of them and the workarounds.

Ah ok that doesn't sound good. It's a pain as I can't just alt tab out the game to check. Thanks.

I know but I don't use google & I'm not sure how safe it is to use steam's browser. I've been told before not to use it.

Not sure if this will be of help to anyone else, but all I did to fix this 'bug' was to walk up to the door of a house called Hjerim which instantly completed the 'crime scene'. I was just randomly walking through the city & found it by accident.

Once inside I searched around the house & found what I needed then after spoke to Jorleif.

Outside wandering around the city was a women, spoke to her then went back to jorleif again & the quest was completed.

The 2 YT vids I watched were at different parts of the quest to me (as there's many parts) & done in a different order to mine so were not much help.

Ah, you did follow the trail of blood that goes to Hjerim. That is what you should do, did you miss that part? :P

Yes it was night time so it was very dark so no way to see it. The arrow marker seemed to indicate that I needed to investigate the surface of the tomb. When I walked up to it nothing happened so I was kind of lost as I had no reason to look at the floor & follow a trail as I didn't really know what I was supposed to be doing in the first place other than looking in the area of this floating white arrow marker.

I needed that gadget Ethan uses in Condemned.
