The Ebony Blade we get after Whispering Door is not the true blade!

After getting the Ebony Blade on my Tribunal Champion (the Daedric Princes, not the demigods) I gotta say, its pretty damn ♥♥♥♥♥. Why?

1. It is untemperable

2. Health Absorbion outclassed by other artifacts and player made stuff

3. Its not actually the REAL Ebony Blade!

When I mean by not the "real" blade, it is because there are TWO Ebony Blades in the game, but only one is more disgusting, more vile, and so dark its enough to make Stendarr speechless.

The real Ebony Blade has a enchantment that lets you kill ANY friendly npc without making an entire city become hostile towards you. Exactly what the Admonition Against Ebony says and here I quote:

"It has corrupted and perverted the desires of great men and women. Yet its power is without equal -- to kill while your victim smiles at you. Only a daedra most foul could have concocted such a malevolent and twisted weapon"

In bold, this is what the Ebony Blade used to do and am guessing that, by being unwielded for so long, degraded its power. No mentioning of it stealing life forces any where.

What I do know is that, this "other" version of the blade would be perfect for an assassin :D

I don't understand what you mean by that?

Wiki clearly says that the other sword is not included in the game. You could gain it trough the console command, but there is no other Ebony Blade in the game. Unless you mod or console another one in to existence, then the one you get is the only real Ebony Blade there is.

"A second Ebony Blade (item ID 000ea29c, DA08RealEbonyBlade) is included in Skyrim, though it cannot be obtained without the use of the console. This version of the Blade allows a player to attack NPCs without having them become hostile. This effect matches the description of how Mephala says the Blade should function once it is sufficiently powerful. Murders using this blade will still give you bounty if you are witnessed."

Nono- What he's saying is that the Ebony Blade you get is not what the Ebony Blade should be- It's a horribly bad weapon. The absorb health is easily outclassed by enchanting, and it doesn't have the signature effect that it should. It's not the true Ebony Blade as described.

Yeah, I understood that, after reading his(?) posts second time. He just spoke as there was supposed to be 2 blades in the game world, when I knew that only one was included.

So, now I've confirmed for myself that indeed, the other Ebony Blade is in the game via console, was the original point of the quest going to be that once you completed Mephala's request to kill your friends, the weapon transforms into the other version? But Bethesda probably considered that enchantment was too OP?

I think it's a fair reward for doing all that murdering!

The quest was originally a whole lot different, and it involved you plotting with balgruuf's children to murder him, with someone else taking the throne, empowering the blade. Yes, the blade is untemperable because in the book it says "Even the hottest fires of the skyforge could not melt it" and bro. It can do 25 damage with boosts and can take away 50 health per hit when you kill enough followers.

And it swings at the same speed as a normal sword. It is a great weapon.

There was a bug that it used to have before the 1.9.26.0.8 patch where, despite being a two-handed weapon, would use your one-handed skill and perks instead. I actually saw that as a bit of great game design when you think about it. Mephala's persistent theme is "interference in the affairs of mortals for amusement", I always considered that bug in the Ebony Blade to be intentional; she's using her artifact to troll you - no matter how many people you kill, it will never become as powerful as the legends say but you'd keep trying anyway.

Now what do you think happened to the people who wielded that same blade over the centuries?

30 Absorb maximum, better can be gained through enchantments.
Same think for the damage part.
Just as useless in the end as almost every single other daderic artifact.

It might be that broken link up above, but there was a mod in the workshop that, once you fully upgrade the blade, it would place the true ebony blade in your inventory and remove the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ one... whatever happened to that? I know it sounds silly, but I don't mind adding mods that fix issues such as this, but if I'm forced to use the console, I feel like I cheated
