stuck in Ansilvund excavations
I'm stuck here with a gate over a bridge in front of me, 4 pillars up behind me and a lever to pull, I presume I must set the pillars to the correct sequence and pull the lever to open the gate? It's driving me crazy, been here for hours......

The symbols, in sequence, are always nearby. Usually there are 3 so if there is a fourth pillar it might have the symbols carved on it. In any case, they will be above doorways or halls, around the circumference of the room or otherwise nearby.
As a last resort you can google the quest or site and check the wiki pages returned.

The symbols are all hidden below the turnable ones. Look under the ledge. Some are hidden by weeds.

Also, you may want to consider buying the official Sky Rim hint and guide book since you'll be encountering countless puzzles throughout the game. I have the book and it has saved my butt many times.

Isn't that the puzzle that had a story book attached to it as well? In case you don't notice the cobwebbed "clues" below. The short story includes, in order, the same words as the solution.

Can you also help me to get out of the excavations? I'm running around getting nowhere.

The in game map is your friend here and if you need a 'pointer' just temporarily set a personal marker on the exterior map.

Why buy a book for something you can find for nothing on several internet sites?

@ SpeedFreek...So why was it necessary to quote my post? Answer: it wasn't. All you had to do was post your link. Ever stop to think the hard cover book might be a collectors item some day? Everybody has thier own way of doing things you do it your way I"ll do it my way.

LOL - SpeedFreek informs you of 'his' way - and that of the great multitude - and you berate him for doing exactly what you have - for voicing an opinion? This forum really is a great source of amusement and hilarity at times. :-)

@ pedantic...Once again I stand by my statement... it wasn't necessary to try and belittle my post...he could have made his point by simply posting his link. The difference between SpeedFreek and me, is that I try and help people without stepping on other people's toes. Oh, and I could care less about what the great multitudes think...I dance to my own music, my own way. :-)
