How many books does the Winterhold Orc really want?

is this one of those neverending radiant A.I. quests or is there a fixed amount of books the Orc wants you to recover from all parts of Skyrim?

He also buys the Elder Scroll (Dragon) off you. Just notice that you will need it for the main questline, and later for Dawnguard main quest line. Don't sell it before you have done both.

The more you bring to him (especially the Elder Scroll) the friendlier he becomes with you.

Wait is it even possible to sell the elder scroll before doing the questlines? I mean would Bethesda really not make it a quest item and thus allow you to mess up your own game?

Yes...they actually did that, but fear not, IF you sell the elder scroll to Urag you can buy it back, but I never do that, I always give them to Dexion after finishing the DG quest, after all he ends up going blind for helping us, so...yeah, I think it's fair enough !!!

I have the book "Chronicles of Nchuleft" in my inventory, however the game thinks it is still in the chest where I found it so the orc doesn't think I have it either. Is there a fix or patch?

Yes. Eventually he'll ask you to fetch exactly the same book you fetched already, if he hasn't already.
