Try to enter one of the newly walled cities and I can hear my computer saying "I hate you." And I've got a decent rig for this game. The Winterhold texture is sooooo pretty though and I love that they have little houses and extra chops, little extra touches, different drinks...
Back to Requiem, what I especially like about it is that it includes, in one mod, or several if you include patches, a lot of features from other mods I've considered in the past, but opted not to download. It really is one-stop shopping, if that's your sort of thing. I did consider SkyRe and really liked it too (read the manuals for both overhauls and watched all the tutorials), but the modularity is what I didn't like about it. With Requiem I have, Requiem, Requiem Resources, Dragonborn patch, Frostfall patch, and Hearthfire patch, and that's it. Other mods I use are for aesthetics and immersion, my only other overhauls are iNeed, AFT, and Convenient Horses, which are compatible without patches. With SkyRe, I'd have to download each of the modules, the reproccer, and a separate mod that addresses things that SkyRe doesn't fix (leveling, scarcity, economy, some AI, weapons, armors), plus their corresponding patches to work with the Reproccer. IMO, this was too many mods for my little mind. Now if you like that sort of tweaking, then that is for you, and that is totally ok. Me, I don't need that much fine-tuning, so I opted for Requiem. It is a matter of gameplay preference, one is not better than the other. I compared two mod lists using Requiem or SkyRe, yes I am that anal and did a lot of research before embarked on my Requiem adventure. My mod list for Requiem was significanlty smaller, about 15 mods less.
The other thing I love, the deleveled world. I had been wanting this in Skyrim from day 1. No more I gotta wait until I'm level 5000 to do this quest so I can get the best version of a weapon. Lol, the irony is that you are waiting to do a lot of quests until you get to a higher level in Requiem, but not because your reward will be better, but for the right reason. That part is just too hard to do.
The wonderful thing about both mods is their confirgurability. Their MCM menus are great (I only can speak from experience in Requiem, but I have seen the tutorials for SkyRE and can tell they are great). Remember, I was very close to going either way in my research for an overhaul. Requiem only narrowly edged out SkyRe and that was because my overall mod count with Requiem was significantly lower than it would've been with SkyRe. It had nothing to do with the way either mods worked.
SkyDie looks good too, but again it is missing that crucial element for mages and checking the posts confirmed my suspicions. A mage rarely puts points into stamina, as they are in cloth and use magic. It seeems, that SkyDie put a blankiet number on how much damage you could do based on your overall stamina level and that doesn't help mages. Now the author seemed responsive to posts addressing that issue, so I'm sure a fix is in the works, but if I were going to do a mage build, I probably wouldn't be using that mod until they ironed out the kinks. Not that Requiem is easy for a cloth mage. It's pretty brutal in the first 20 levels, especially if you opt out of conjuration. You need to be patient.
That is the key with these overhaul mods; patience. Gone are the rapid leveling or the exploits of enchanting, smithing, and alchemy. The irony is that I have crafted more in my Requiem build than in almost any other, but in my Requiem game, the crafting has become an immersive part of the character's makeup, not some endless, exploitable grind session, resulting in a boring game. Achievements with these overhauls feel great. When you get an enchanted item, it is truly a special thing. When you own the final boss of a dungeon, you really get a sense of achievement.
Needs to be updated. I added some house mods, but those aren't too vital.
As I said before I never tried Requiem, or SkyDie either, but I just started another playthrough with SkyRe. I can't play without it and after researching Requiem, It seems a bit too much for me, and SkyDie is obviously even more, so SkyRe is still my favorite. It's also compatible with every armor/weapon mod. Requiem might be too though I'm not sure.
Yeah, I'm definitely someone who doesn't like mixing and matching, which is why I use Requiem.
Requiem has a stamina drain affect as well, but... You can easily tweak that in its MCM menu. I'm sure you can easily tweat things with all three mods though.
As long as you are happy with your game then that's what counts.
Yeah, I don't think I can play the game without Requiem installed anymore. It has made my current playthrough pretty awesome.
I think people go into the overhaul thinking that the overhaul has to be either all or nothing. If you go into Requiem with that mentality and aren't ready for the brutality, then yes, you are not going to like the changes it makes. However, if someone realizes that they can indeed tweak these overhauls to their liking, I think more people would get a better experience out of it. I tweak Requiem to make it more to my liking.
The vanilla game isn't bad. Haha, before I put in Requiem, I had put long hours into Vanilla too. I like Skyrim. Period. Vanilla or modded. I will keep Requiem, though. I think it is a good training ground for Dark souls.
