If you want one perfect game. I suggest.....
Bears and sabre cats stop at the waters edge, trolls too, deer and elk will swim across, goats too iirc. Funnily enough human pursuers stop at the waters edge iirc.
I actually considered that much more annoying than certain animals occasioanlly (altough not so often in my game) running on the lake floor.
I fixed it with this:

I haven't yet found a solid fix for glitch (or oversight) conserning certain animals in water. I keep my eyes open, in case that such fix would appear.
