Sadly it didn't work. My kids didn't even move either. Even though I told them to. =\
Do you have UFO?
It does that, and you can uninstall my home is your home.
Bring your guy/gal, and once in the house tell her bout her new place if she doesn't belong yet, and then tell her to "relax", or "relax a bit" or something in these lines.
They'll start chilling, sit by fireplace, read a book, have a drink, eat, bla bla.
EDIT: i still don't think they change floors tho, if thats what you were looking for. My wolf changes floors, walks up and down the stairs for some reason, my human followers don't.
Since everyone here seems to be using mod's. What about in the vanilla game (no DLC or mod's), if the game is working correctly, your follower (Lydia-Breezehome) is suppose to do something other than sit at the table eating and drinking in the master bedroom? I think she's getting fat but I'm afraid to say anything, after all, I've seen what she has done to those that have tried to attack me!
If this is still a situation in your game, then you haven't yet installed Unofficial Patches. ;)

If you wonder why you should do it, then release notes for each patch can be found from here.

Short answer
I consider it safe. Many peoples have done so. Just run LOOT after installing them and keep your load order straight with it. :)
Long Answer
Some peoples have reported strange things happening, when they have installed patches in the middle of game. Some have even claimed that they messed up their games.
Each of these resent cases have been shady, to say the least. Not one of them have proved that their problems started from Unofficial Patches. I seems to me that some peoples are stubborn to set their load order manually, keep using broken mods (like WARZONES) against our advices or are carrying some sort of grudge against Arthmoor.
Dealing with stubborn peoples is hard, because suggesting that they could use LOOT, give up certain mods or ignoring their grudges usually spark mature answers in lines of "Go f*** yourself."
You really can't write anything up from conversations with these guys, so my notes have currently 0 conformed problems with Unofficial Patches coming from this forum.
