Fultheim (from the Nightgate Inn) randomly attacked me! (spoilers ahead, kind of) (CLOSED)

I entered the Inn, walked up to the counter and started talking to the Innkeeper but then I heard a sword being unsheathed and see Fultheim really mad & attacking me. I killed him in one hit because well he's basically wearing paper clothes. Turns out his weapon is a Blades katana. My mind was blown. I've never actually killed him before because he seemed harmless so I had no idea he (probably) used to be a member of the Blades. I'm wearing the Steel Plate armor set except for the gauntlets (i'm wearing the wolf armor gauntlets) so I doubt he attacked me because of what I was wearing. I'm mentioning that because according to his wikia he will attack you if you approach him wearing Thalmor Robes. The only reason why I think he would attack me is because I've started the questline to join the Stormcloaks. I'm not officially a Stormcloak yet but maybe I'm already tagged as being aligned with them and he somehow knew? The Blades were of course from the Cyrodiil (specifically the Imperial City) so i guess it makes sense that he would hate Stormcloaks?

OP stated in his original post that he was not wearing Thalmor garb. He seems to be well aware of the fact the Fultheim will attack if he is wearing Thalmor garb. He is probably correct in thinking that it could be because he is in the process of joining the Stormcloaks, although I have never heard of that happening before.

Nope, being a Stormcloak doesn't do that without mods, even in cases where it really should.


The op either did something to anger the NPC that they aren't saying, has a mod tgat caused this, or was wearing something tagged as being Thalmor.

You really think I went through all that trouble of making that detailed post and taking those screenshots only to lie about what I've done? I did nothing to Fultheim. Maybe I killed someone who he was close with and forgot but I had never been to the Nightgate Inn until that moment.

Yes, I do actually because what you are describing as happened is not in the scripts.

So you either did something to anger him, have a mod that changes his behavior, or are wearing something that is tagged as being Thalmor.

I suppose if we go down the "it's a largely unknown bug" route, we could look into whether you have a bounty and he is flagged as enforcing bounties, but I'm pretty sure he isn't.

Also something to note is if it weren't for your hyper defensiveness about the issue, I'd have probably chalked it up to you unknowingly having a mod that altered his behavior or running into a glitch.

Wait, I can think of two possibilities that might be the cause of this: high enough bounty in Dawnstar, and vampirism. OP, what's your character's status on those two things?
