Can't upgrade to Anniversary Edition
I am on a PC running Skyrim via Steam. I would like to upgrade to the Anniversary Edition, but I can't.

When I start Skyrim via the launcher and go to the main menu I see the advertisement that says "<X> Available Now: Skyrim Anniversary Upgrade" When I attempt to click on it, nothing happens. When I attempt to type "X", nothing happens. When load a previously saved game, then hit escape and look at the version number on the System tab, I see 1.5.9x.

When I shut down my computer, restart, launch Steam and launch Skyrim from Steam and repeat the steps above, the same thing happens.

I purchased the Anniversary upgrade content for $19,99. It shows as loaded in my Steam Library for Skyrim.

Any advice?

The anniversary edition is an upgrade for the special edition of Skyrim, not this version of Skyrim. This version and the special edition are two separate base games. The dlc for the special edition will not work for this version of Skyrim. You will have to buy the special edition of Skyrim as well.

my version of the original skyrim says 1.9.32.0.8

op has 1.5.9 which is skyrim special edition that has NOT been updated to skyrim ae?

Cheshrim is correct. I do already own Skyrim Special Edition and it's installed successfully. I've been running it for a year or so.

psycho is correct that the anniversary edition is a dlc, but there was also an accompanying patch. The dlc seems to be successfully loaded via the Creation Club. I have downloaded the content through them. However, the content is not visible. Nor can objects associated with the content be accessed through the console.

I'm pretty certain there is something wrong. And I'm pretty sure it is related to the fact that I cannot interact with the naggy advertisement on the main screen.

Any other ideas?

Hmm.. maybe you have to log in to Bethesda's dumb Bethesda.net thing for it to activate?

Bethesda.net is no longer going to be a thing Bethesda is getting rid of it

I think you commented on the wrong page because we Oldrim players don't get the option to press 'X' to upgrade to the anniversary edition, I'm guessing you meant to make a Skyrim special edition discussion?

Anyway, you could try verifying the integrity of the game or even reinstalling it completely

Only the launcher is going down, the Site itself isn't and you still need your account to use Bethesda Mods which include the CC.

Basically when you install the SE version and start to play it immediately installs the update. HOWEVER, you also need to go to the Creation Club menu and select Download All, this downloads all the updated armour and in-game content that makes the game look better, in fact this content kind of is most of the anniversary update.
Once thats all downloaded you'll need to restart. It will still say SE version, but the anniversary update will have been applied and you get that nicer landing page

Try posting this in the Skyrim Special Edition forum.

Look for "Best of Both Worlds" on Nexus and is a downgrade that makes the game go back to the version before the AE upgrade came out
