CTD when I press Esc near Solitude.
Away from pc atm, I’ll add the load order tonight. Would a ctd like this be more likely due to script based mods, or something with an inventory?

Just disable (NOT uninstall) everything except for alternate start, and use the "I am a patron at a local inn" option and choose the Winking Skeever. Make a save. Then test, starting with that initial save that has nothing else. If that works, reenable mods in groups - so, reenable 10 or twenty mods, make a new save with those mods enabled, and if it works, proceed to test the next group of mods (again making a save with all the reenabled mods from the new group) - if you get a CTD, delete that save and add half of the mods in the group you had just tested, repeating the process of saving and testing. This is the best way of testing. Also, very important that you are not using a save from which mods have been removed, as mod information is not removed from existing saves, and therefore remains to cause issues whether the mod is installed/disabled or not.

Although that option tends to find the mod, it's a pain, more so due to I've started the Overtime half of the month at work. It's just 1 more hour in the day, and my job isn't the hardest, but that time seems to come directly from the time when I start playing video games at night. I'll try a mod clump or two Tom. or Sat. depending on if I have weekend overtime. I suspect I will this week though.

Good luck, And yeah though that method is a pain, it is often the quickest way to find the issue. But take your time and eventually you'll get it all sorted out. And I fully get the part about work and limited time, there's just no way around that, unfortunately.

Good news is I'm narrowing down the crashs. Bad news is I found an infinite loading screen.
I started in Skyrim, didn't crash, took the boat to Raven rock, and didn't crash there, added mods, and went to take the boat back, when I had/have the Loading screen. I think I gave up after 10 mins. Do I go further back, disabling more mods? Or, do I use two saves, to check between the two crashs till the mod/mods are found?

Each of those saves have not had mods removed from them, correct? Frankly, I would just continue systematically checking, just to avoid the possibility of getting the two save confused somehow - because no matter how care you are, those things can happen.

But that is definite progress - though that infinite load screen could now just be an artifact of the removal of a necessary patch - so that is something that needs checking as you go along.

First I played games to break the mechanics (young and stupid, been playing pc games for 40 years), then I went to making my own mods for personal use.
Nowadays I just play. But definitely see the draw to modding and what you can get away with.

Some years ago I had a bad a area near the road junction between Solitude and Dragon bridge where I would get crashes. If I attempted to go north of that junction I'd get a crash.
I tried lots of things the best were

1 To sleep for a month in a internal room ( to make skyrim as vanilla as possible )
2 To delete quick saves occasionally and never save over saves.
3 To only save when the game had nothing going on ... so game wasn't running scripts while attempting to save. (trying to save while lots is happening can cause loads of issues with scripts getting missed and borking your save )
4 to avoid that area and not tempt fate
5 by avoiding a known area the problem sorts it self ( ie play quests in other parts of the map for a week or so )

Newest one had the crash by Solitude gates. Could be a script thing, as the newest MCM menus were loading, I drew my weapon, which triggered the Guard due to a mod, and I pressed Esc, and crashed.

One thing I would suggest is let the game load properly. As you load in DON'T do anything for 5 minutes and let scripts run without starting any others.

Only once the game is fully loaded and YOU have waited a FULL 5 minutes then make a Save. Or named save with console
Save WaitedTooLong
Will create a save named WaitedTooLong

Also sounds like possibly memory issues. Set graphics to low or very low to make sure as the game loads it's not being overloaded.

Just simple guide ideas

I suspect Carved Brink, as that's always gave me troubles in the past. The one time I got around to playing it, None of the important textures where there, and the floor had been missing.
Also, I think the Seaside Library is causing a freeze I've noticed. Even when the Solitude ctd doesn't happen, the one test I used TCL to clip though the mountains to go to said Library, and after a bit, it froze. I think that mod's acting up. Pity, I love anything LoD mods.

I'm stopping tonight, after I read and reply if needed to whatever came in while typing this. So far, it still works.
