Brother Verulus of Riften

Every time I enter Riften, Verulus shows up an insist on talking to me, without me clicking on him, and then he continues to re-engage conversation after I exit out of conversation. How do I get rid of this annoying character?

Did you kill Eola? Apparently there's a bug that if you kill her in the Hall of the Dead he will always talk to you when you are near him in Understone Keep. The Unofficial Skyrim Patch will solve it.

If you are seeing him in Riften then there is something seriously borked in your game. You do mean Markarth, I hope. If so, then what Turtleswatter said.

If indeed it is Riften, start a new game, reset the game to vanilla, and do not use console commands if you did so - because that is the only thing I can think of that would have placed him there (other than a mod - though I know of no mod that does that - or why it even would).

He is wandering around in Riften.

Okay. There is this from https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Brother_Verulus Notes section:
"While on the quest The Taste of Death, and having asked him to accompany you to Reachcliff Cave, Brother Verulus will follow you everywhere until he is brought to Eola. Thus, he may be used as a powerful follower in addition to any follower you may already have if you postpone returning to Reachcliff Cave, although it might be important to note that you cannot access Brother Verulus' inventory, and thus cannot enhance his abilities during their time together."

And the bug turtleswatter mentioned may also be related to it in that case - from the bugs section of the above linked page:
"If you kill Eola in the Hall of the Dead and report back to Verulus, he will approach and speak to you every time you are near him at Understone Keep.
PC Only This bug is fixed by version 1.2.7 of the Unofficial Skyrim Patch."

If you have not yet completed that quest, the do so. If you killed Eola already, and you have all 3 DLCs, try installing the Unofficial Patch (if you have not already.

If none of these work and you do not havee a save to roll back to prior to starting that quest (The Taste of Death), then you will have to start a new game - or just put up with the problem and hope that there is nothing else bugged out.
