Require Help to Turn Skyrim Into a Horror Experience
I’ve run into a conundrum in regard to modding Skyrim and I’m writing this as a distress signal because I imagine most people have been playing this game on steam longer than I have.
I watched a video on turning Skyrim into a horror game. Turning regular RPGs into horror games has been a bit of a fascination with me.

This is the video I’m referring to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NYmqAn2V_U

Now the issue comes in the fact that I’ve arrived late to the “Skryim on PC” party. So late, that Bethesda, corresponding with their effort to burn all of their good will away in the past few years, had removed Skyrim from the steam store page. Now, I was able to find it thanks to some links.

However, the issue comes in the fact that I am now lacking all three DLC. I really don’t feel like paying Bethesda upwards of €45 for nearly 10 year old DLC, nor paying €40 for a game that I already own with some HD mushrooms slapped in (I know there’s more to it than just that but just roll with it for now).

So, I’m taking the third option, which is to come to you guys hat in hand, who’ve been modding the game for past decade, in hopes of trying to make something similar in pure vanilla.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following is a list of mods from the video’s description that I’ve been able to get working:

Creepy Zombies: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/56379

High Level Enemies: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/27866

Skyrim Flora Overhaul: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/141

Wild Cat- Combat of Skyrim: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/76529

Yggdrasil Music and SoundFX Overhaul: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/93910
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Most of the mods listed in the video I can live without or find a substitute for. However, there are two that are critical to the experience.

Draugnarok: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/51695

Eternal Night: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/75504

Draugnarok isn’t critical in the fact that there are zombies, more so in the fact that all typical “safe zones” have been replaced with a hostile force. Really that’s all that I kinda want for a replacement, something that empties out towns, villages and cities. If it can replace it with a “spooky” enemy type then even better.
Eternal Night is critical because, well, the dark is scary, and having everything be dark all the time is scary. It’s less about the visuals and is purely about freezing the day/night cycle. I looked into it, and stopping the timescale breaks the games rendering, so it’s not something that could be amended with simple commands.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I’d like this discussion to become a repository for people who want to turn Skyrim into a horror experience from the video but don’t have the DLC.
If you guys want to suggest any other spooky mods, such as creatures, quests, locations, textures, etc. then absolutely go ahead.

Thanks for reading.

You can buy the Skrym Legendary Edition, which has all of the DLCs that you need from a key reseller relatively cheaply. I got mine from Eneba for about $9.
