Resolution issues not seen before
I recently re-installed the original version, no mods, and am losing the bottom of the screen, where you can drop items from inventory, gold and weight totals, that kind of stuff.

I followed the corrective recommendations, both from the Steam Discussions and the Skyrim site. Went into the config files, changed the Read Only box, wrote the Buffer =1, H=1080, W=2560, saved it. No effect. Changed the Nvidia Control Panel setting for 3d settings as recommended.

How can I get the resolution to stay in place and get the lower portion of the screen back. I ran this game several years ago with this same system, no issues, now it's a problem. Thanks in Advance.

Hi
1. You sure it was the ini usually located here : C:\Users\<your name>\Documents\My Games\Skyrim that was changed?
2. Double check to make sure it did not revert to read only. Just my experience was I had to take control of the entire folder before any changes were saved.
3. Is it a different monitor you are playing on now?
Just my experience again, but I had to change the television I play on to 90% to get the whole game on.

Hope you can get it sorted.

When I validate the integrity of the game files via the Steam library/properties, it always has "1 file failed to validate and will be reacquired." pop-up, and running it repeatedly does not fix it. Slayer3000, thanks for the assist, and I verified the ini file, and it still shows 1080/2560 and read only as I saved it. My monitor is new since I played, and I will try and change that, but can I change it for just Skyrim? I'll try.

That 1 file failing to validate is normal and has no adverse effect - it is how Skyrim detects your graphics card, which it cannot do until you launch the game.

I'm tempted to just purchase the SE version, but I would be super sad if the same issue was present.

Try this and make sure you read the installation instructions on the description page:
TruBy9 UltraWide - Skyrim - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/84627

And, you would likely have the same issues with SSE, without a fix. (There are similar fixes to the above available for SSE as well)

I found a option on a 2016 YouTube video for a application to fix this on Classic: https://flawlesswidescreen.org/#Download similar to what you just recommended, installed it, ran it for Skyrim, works just fine now. Thank you both for the help.

Wo, just a minute.
"and I verified the ini file, and it still shows 1080/2560 and read only as I saved it. "
It must be changed from read only to read/write to be able to alter and save it.
Once it is saved you can change back to read only if you want to. Not important to have it as read only.

Glad you got it fixed, Meram! Yeah, wide screen issues are something we see a fair amount of in the forums - they look great but come with their own set of peculiar problems.

Ya, I unchecked the Read only box, made the changes, then saved and made it Read only again so the game wouldn't keep changing the resolution on loading. It works fine now.
