please help :(( character creation bug??
hey, ive had the game for three days, no mods or anything. first game, everything went fine, but then i ended up messing everything up (got too far into the miraak quest too fast, would take my dragon souls so i gave up and decided to start fresh)

but every time i try to start a new game, i get stuck at the character creation tab. i can change between races and finish there, but i can't change gender/face/etc.

i've tried verifying game files, uninstalling and reinstalling, deleting the file from my computer.. is there a mod i need to get ? or a simple fix?

Wow buddy, it's the first time that i've seen such problem. Whenever you try to create a new game, you create a new file in documents. Problem is probably something about your computer files. Try to search some game files on internet which is 1 lvl and has done no quest at all. Then transfer that file to your own computer and don't start a new game but load the game. When you loaded that file, you can change your outlook by "showracemenu" command. With this way you will be like starting a new game without fixing the bug.

Oh boy!...

Mao has a work around, yes, but it doesn't fix the bug, and that bug (totally new to me) needs killing once and for all.

But how, sorry but no idea at this stage. Will research though and report back if I find anything.

In meantime, a quick word with support might turn something up.

Okay, there have been these types of problems cropping up with widescreen resolution - it could be the wrong resolution anyway, just try others and see if problem persists. However the widescreen problem was mostly with SSE not Oldrim.

Also a similar problem was sorted by de-activating nvidia geforce experience for the first game.

Several people had similar problems with Oldrim when using controllers/pads with the auto-detect turned on - turning it off or removing conflict between pad and keyboard solved the problem.

If none of these work, then I'm out of ideas.

There may still be some files leftover - uninstalling and reinstalling does not necessarily remove all files in all locations. Follow this guide and do a clean reinstall:

(from pinned topic Helpful Links and References, Section 5, General Troubleshooting)

Good luck, raccoonc0re! Let us know how things go!

thank you guys so much for your help! the extent of my knowledge of game files ends after copy + pasting sims 4 custom content into the right folders. i was nervous to further break my game so i didn't check other areas, but thanks to you smr1957, i deleted the other skyrim file under program files (something i didn't know existed, i only deleted the files in my documents) and thanks to melkolf, i changed my widescreen resolution. in the end, it's working now, but i'm not entirely sure what fixed it. just very greatful i can edit my character again :D

certainly gave me quite a headache & i don't think i'll be getting into modding for the time being, and i think thats for the best hahahaa
Dont lose hope raccooncOre, modding is pretty easy, and it does take a wee while granted to build a highly modded and more importantly stable build, but the journey is worth it.

All part of the learning curve, remember and refer to the pinned guides by some of us on the forums on how to mod.

Best of luck no matter what you do though.

Raccoonc0re, that is great news! And as far as modding goes, when you feel you are ready, we will be here to help - so no need to rush things. For now, just enjoy the game - and good luck!

clean instal, and dont go too fast, if you want to enjoy the game just know that at level 9 you unlock dawngard and at 15 or so you get dragontard

Thank you for this, had the same issue and solved the problem by swapping to windowed.
