Use mods while offline?
I have a modded Skyrim game. Not insanely modded, mostly just extra sets of armor or weapons or unlimited followers, that sort of thing. Problem is, this is on a second computer - one that doesn't have an internet connection anymore with no possible way to get it back. It's still got Skyrim on it, but the mods don't work anymore as a result.

So my question is, is there a way to get it to work? Most of the mods I can live without but there's a couple I really want to keep.

Any mods installed via a mod manager will work offline as long as you have Steam running in offline mode.

Alright good. These mods were installed through the standard Steam workshop but I think I've got the Nexus Mod Manager available.

While we're at it, do mods work for the Special Edition?

If not, then that's fine - I don't care about the graphics, I just like to use them to "sort" saves - with vanilla Skyrim having all my main playthrough stuff and the Special Edition having all my second playthrough stuff.

Yes indeed mods work in Skyrim SE. There is no workshop, (thankfully), but there are several places to get free mods, and paid mods.

Alright, good.

Thanks, I appreciate it.

...How exactly do I install them?

Relevant: I don't want to play with a ton of mods, I just want this one specifically:

because I'm going to roleplay a Dark Elf fire mage that likes Meridia. Got a lore-friendly name and everything. xD

Edit: Then again it probably wouldn't be the end of the world if I can't figure out how to get it to work honestly. It would be cool but not absolutely necessary.

You shouldn't use nexus mod manager. It alone causes quite a few issues.

Even if you can't download more stuff, you can still transfer files between your computers using a flash drive. Those aren't too expensive to get. Even the cheapest ones will do you just fine if you're just looking to occasionally transfer data between two computers. Using that you can get mod organizer or vortex on there. Keep in mind, that the mod organizer on the skyrim nexus is outdated. The latest version is actually in the special edition section. Despite that, it'll work for both games, and in fact even works for games other than Skyrim. You'll notice when you start it up btw that it lists quite a few games you can use it with.

Of course, modding through mod organizer will take some getting used that. But honestly, if you've only ever used the workshop, even something like vortex or NMM would be almost as different.

Long story short, just download another mod manager and transfer it to the other computer with a flash drive or something. Besides, that will also allow you to add more mods to the other computer.

NMM is well past its use by date. It has been superseded now by Vortex which is far superior.
It, and Mod Organiser 2 which is just as effective, are easily found on Nexus.

EDIT: Posted same time as BW - he has the way of transferring download from one PC to another at end of post.

another good way to transfer mods is an External Drive

That's not something everyone can do. Best case scenario, you have to open up your computer to do it, or get a special cable to plug it in. Besides, using an external hard drive to transfer a single program seems overkill. You could really use any sort of external media, though I think the only ones you can find today are flash drives and SD cards. You may also be able to hook up two computers into a LAN network and share files that way, but I've never done that myself, and I have no clue if modern computers would even have that capability. Most do still come with ethernet ports the last I checked, so it may still be possible.

actually yes they can if there is a USB hook up you can move the files to an external drive for one I have one so it can be done with any computer or laptop today so I think I know what I'm talking about also an external is the same thing as a flash drive. I mean move the files to the external then move from the external to the new computer also the 2 computer hookup don't always work and ethernet is for internet not transfer. it's a USB that makes it work not ethernet

You can't plug a hard drive into a usb slot unless you get a specialized cable that most people don't know about. I know this, because I've seen it done myself. The cable needed doesn't have too self-explanatory of a name. Besides, hard drives are expensive, flash drives and sd cards are far cheaper.

Besides, even if you did have the ability to do that, why use a hard drive to transfer the data when you could just connect the hard drive you want to put the data on and put the files directly onto it that way?

Either way, you can easily get a flash drive for just a few dollars, which would be far cheaper than the niche cable the average person wouldn't know about. The most I've ever payed for a flash drive was $10, and that's a fancy one made out of metal too.

Do you want this for Special Edition? That is not possible through Workshop.

Skyrim LE and Skyrim SE are using different Form lists. Skyrim uses Form 43 and Skyrim SE uses form 44. Using Form 43 mods in Special Edition will very likely corrupt the save file.

Simple mods can be converted to SE relatively easily. More complex mods needs to be fully converted by mod authors themselves.

I am unfamiliar with this mod to say if that is plausible. Ask from the author.

Oh, really? Then why have I never seen a drive like that? Unless maybe you're talking about those backup things. I was talking about loose harddrives. Either way, those are rather pricey too. A flash drive or SD card is still the more economic option. As stated, even a chintzy flash drive worth a few dollars will do fine.
