Death Hound attacking a level 1 hero?
I just started a new character, a Khajiit, to try out a pure archer build. After reaching Riverwood I was going for a stroll in the night up to the two bandits with the skill book, and then on towards Helgen. Halfway there I got attacked by two beasts - at first I thought Wolfes, but it was Death Hounds.

Now I understand that they belong to the Dawnguard DLC and Vampires, so I would be prepared to meet them level 8+, but not with level 1.

Any idea, why that happened and my kitty had to bite the dust?

Got any mods that affect spawning?

Sometimes, you have to turn tail and run away. Be prepared, that wont be the only time.

I was level 6 during the Companions questline, and Aela sent me to Solstheim to kill a 'beast'. The beast turned out to be a Dragon Priest! At level 6! I went and did some other questlines for a while before returning there.

I have a couple of mods, but not of that kind.

Do you the SKYRIM X 5 leveling mod by any chance ? I've had that happen several times because I'm a lazy buugger and don't level up sometimes for days . for me this game is a release from my working life .

Hm. No, not such mod as "Skyrim x5 leveling" - only one, that gives XP for mining and tanning (Ars Metallica). Maybe I was just unlucky. Or it was that "Cat vs Dog" thing, mentioned earlier.
Any animal type can appear, I was level 4 when I ran into death hounds, so level 1 was just unfortunate.

Those Dawnguard vampire hit squads, while understandable given the DLC story, get really annoying really quickly. When I want to do a little light shopping in Whiterun, I don't really want to stroll through the main gate and have my face ripped off by a master vampire and his canine friends. I've learned to save just before entering any main city/town, because I never know when I'm going to get ambushed and die in some new and embarrassing fashion. Having the vampires slaughter half the population of the town before they're eventually killed by guards is also a real nuisance. The 'When Vampires Attack' mod mitigates this somewhat, but I'm still like, "Oh, for the love of God, again? Seriously?" whenever it happens.

Don't travel to the city, travel to the stables outside, that way the vampires don't appear.

Also, leave the two Al'kir bounty hunters at front gate in Whiterun. Seems to help.
