To *ANYONE* having the keyboard lockout issue on original Skyrim - I FIXED IT
NOTICE: For people having issues copy-pasting the contents, PLEASE try downloading the raw file instead incase Skyrim is being picky about spacing or something. I've had this issue since I installed Special Edition even long after uninstalling it and using this old backup fixed it immediately. Also, for obvious reasons, you WILL have to reset a bunch of your controls, including look sensitivity, but at least it works. Also, make sure your controller is disabled in your skyrimprefs.ini. Otherwise it's just going to want to use your controller and this definitely won't work.

Notice 2: I apologize if this particular file doesn't work for you, however a corrupt controlmap is definitely the source of the problem. Also, I've only had a few hours sleep, so please bear in mind if there are any grammar errors or anything following this point. (5:20 AM)

I fixed it! Before Bethsoft could even figure out WHAT IT IS I bloody well fixed it! Thank the gods for my habit of being a digital hoarder!

So on a hunch I deleted the custom controlmap file. Launched Skyrim. Keyboard still wouldn't work and game didn't regenerate the file. I told Steam to verify the install. It noticed the file was missing but got stuck trying to download a corrupt 0 byte version.

So i dug through my files and found a backup from 2014. Popped it in my install directory and...IT WORKS! I'm leaving a link to the file on my Deviantart Stash for ANYONE else who needs it! I also emailed Bethesda with this info and am waiting on a reply but as it's 1:37 AM here in Canada I doubt I'll get a reply for a while regardless of timezones.

I BLOODY WELL FIGURED IT OUT HAHAHAHA

Since for whatever reason DA won't let you just save the raw txt file, create a file in your Skyrim install directory called ControlMap_Custom with the .txt extension and copy the contents in. Yeah, it looks like gibberish, but I promise you so does the original file(You can look for yourself in your own steam directory if you're unsure).

Edit: http://sta.sh/01tdk6a0z70v Here's a copy of the raw text file, just remove the .backup tag by renaming the file. http://sta.sh/download/6639652562523727/controlmap_custom_txt_by_silverhowler-damop1d.backup?token=296a72fd5e0e622843ef33c476518601dc11c011&ts=1477728958 This mess of text is a DIRECT download link of the previous link for those with no access to stash. http://pastebin.com/0KkHTEzL Here's a pastebin copy of the contents if you can't access Stash, which I HOPE works. Figuring out somewhere else to stick another copy of the raw file.

Woo! So my digital hoarding really does pay off. Hahahaha. Glad it's working for other people. Just for the record, did you download the raw file or copy the contents of the text dump?

i got it off your DA page haha yeah that was me xD

Ahh, AnnaBanana. But that still doesn't exactly answer my question, heh, as the DA links are the same as the ones in the OP. What I mean is, did you copy the text and paste it into a new file or did you download the .txt.backup file? People were having issues with copy-pasting so I'd love to know which you used.

Alright, so you used the .backup. Thanks for the info, I was hopeful it was a formatting issue with the textdump causing it to not work for some people and that seems to be exactly what it was.

I wish there was a way to pin this. Seems like it being pinned would be useful instead of having to bump it every now and then so it actually gets seen.

Yeah i know what you mean the best way to do this for now is by telling everyone you know and post this on forms that have this problem

Or this:

Navigate to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\

Delete ControlMap_Custom.txt.

Navigate to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim\Data\Interface \Controls\PC\

Delete controlmap.txt.

Now just run Skyrim and setup your keys the way you want.

You can also use:

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/88/?

to create and write a custom map to bind keys that you normally cannot in-game. There are other re-mapping mods, too.

Not to be rude, but you may want to re-read the OP. The keyboard itself is being locked out because of a corrupted control map file, which has been happening since Skyrim Special Edition was released (for some odd reason, having Skyrim Special Edition installed and ran on the same system as Skyrim Regular Edition causes the control map file to corrupt without explanation, causing the keyboard to be locked out in Skyrim Regular Edition).

I also tried the method you posted before this thread was made, and it unfortunately didn't work. The same issue that popped up had continued to persist, and the fix posted in the OP has literally been the only thing to work so far.

Yeah, I downloaded the file and it's just not working. I'll try uninstalling the special edition and see how that works.
