Sanguine Rose vs Casting Summons
I've never played a Summoner. Never gotten my conjuration skill up, used perks and the like. But the Sanguine Rose (which summons a Dremora) seemed good enough. Now I'm wondering, is there much benefit to actually grinding Conjuration skill?

I mean, it never hurts. I don't use conjuration a whole lot but it's not like there is a limited number of skills you can improve before reaching your level cap either and it can be nice to summon a fodder creature to entertain your enemies long enough for you to gorge yourself on cheese or otherwise heal up without the issue of a companion constantly misunderstanding the basic concepts of "stealth". At least that is how I do tend to use conjuration, I'm sure those that prefer mage builds have better uses for it though. It can also be nice to have anything/anyone to have your back in the few moments you end up paralyzed or otherwise rendered unable to handle the situation yourself. Even if they can't win the fight they can pull aggro long enough to hopefully let you recover some of your dignity and get back in the fight. Doing so via magic is mostly just less maintenance to me though.

Ok, i'm going off of memory from about 4-5 years ago, so take this with a grain of salt.

I remember having a Dragon Priest turn the Dremora from Sanguin's Rose against me when i fought one, however, if you get Conjuration to expert tier, you can learn Conjure Dremora Lord. The latter is unaffected by a Dragon Priest's ability to turn it against you.

If anyone else can verify that, it would be appreciated as my memory isn't what it used to be.

With 100 conjuration you can summon 2 at once, they last longer and only require magicka, a constantly replenishing resource unlike soul gems which require time/money to acquire.

Do they last longer before you get to 100 Conjuration?

Dual casting makes them last longer, I think. There is a perk for it with raise dead though.

The downside of conjuration staves is, you don't level up your conjuration with it. Staves also require inventory space, if you don't have 100% reduction you need soul gems, which require more inventory space.

I primarily use staves on characters who do not want to level up a specific skill tree, they are pretty useful for that, challenge runs. And i pretty much always make myself a staff of the storm atronach as soon as level 1 for the heck of it, other than that i throw them away as soon as i can cast the spell version of it.

There is a perk in conjuration called Atromancy which doubles the summon duration to 120 seconds and as stated you can dual cast it for even longer. it requires 50 in conjuration.

It takes a lot of leveling up to use the Dremora Lord spell. The times I've gotten the dual conjuration etc. was after making Smithing legendary over and over again. I'm pretty sure Conjuration training was involved. Luckily the trainer was also a merchant, so I got to dump a lot of jewelry and other stuff because the training fees become part of the trainer's total available coin.

Sanguine Rose is very useful for watching your back while mining ore out in the open until you've leveled up Conjuration. Another advantage is that if you have trouble finding a path to whatever is attacking you, you can just follow them.
The mindless filling of soul gems is pretty much required to level up enchantment or to enchant the character's stuff, so don't let that stop you.

Yes. Both dual casting (skill lvl 20) and Atromancy (skill lvl 40). Twin souls (skill lvl 100) just means two of them instead of one.

What's nice about that is then you can give your Sanguine Rose to your follower, and the two of you become 5 of you in combat.

Another advantage to Sanguine Rose is that you can use it as a ranged weapon. Bowman attacking from a ledge you haven't found a path to yet? Reach out and touch them with your Dremora.

Are you saying that is an advantage over casting summon spell? Does the staff have a longer range or something?

It does not, a Dremora lord is melee only so they will always run to the enemy, doesn't matter how you summon em'
