Saving ESS.TMP and 4 hours loses to it.
Hey guys, I was playing the Soul Cairn part and after I passed it, I've saved and then I was still playing, and like 4 hours playing and 12 saves later, I decide to stop a bit and do some random quests, I died and after I tried to Load the last save I just born at Soul Cairn again, I do have the saves in Documents/MyGames/Skyrim, but the last saves are ESS.TMP and not .ESS, I don't know what to do to comeback to .ESS, and this is not allowing me to load the last save. Please help me. Thanks for attention.

ESS.TMP are actual saves that are temporary. They do this because of how some mods affect save times like Immersive Armors / Weapons. Even mods like iNeed may at one point do this.

1. Load an older save
2. Create a NEW save
3. Type in player.kill
4. Load your latest save
5. Type in player.kill
6. Try saving

Hey Limbo, thank you for response! When I write player.kill, it does what it needs to do of course, but I don't know why, my character doesn't ask a respawn, I don't know too if it is because of there is Serena by my side ans she can revive me, but the last load just don't appear. When I select Load from Options, It don't show the ESS.TMP saves, just the .ESS. I'll try to give you an example:

I have 154 Saves, the save 151 is a file .ESS and it shows on the game, and the saves 152-154 don't show up in the Load section.

If you make a new save does it save as .tmp?

Not now, like, I made a mistake at first, because I let my C: run out of space, so after the notification appears on my screen, I didn't pay attention to that, an the saves started to save .tmp after I tried some things to fix it, I cleaned it, and now I saved and it was saved as .ess

This happened because your C:/ ran out of space making it so no new files or old files could effectively be altered. If you have another drive there are ways to move the saves default location but I will need to look at the ini configs for this. Easiest way is like using Mod Organizer 2 and having the profile save be on the profile location and having MO2 on another drive.

This might also happen from the save folder be read only but that isn't the case for nearly 90% of the player base. Even if you have the folder read only and are Administrator it will still save since you have permissions to bypass.

There isn't anything you can really do about the tmp files as they aren't able to be changed to ess and loaded without an infinite load screen. I can still find out more though.

Ok, so I didn't understand what it means, like, I just lost all these saves? And I am highly recommended to change the saving folder location? Because like, My Games folder was Read Only, but when my C:/ ran out of space, it just didn't save in .ess right?

You do not have to change you save location. Just if you run out of space on the drive, the files will be saved as .tmp and unusable. I don't have a way to get this same situation as you to provide someway to fix the saves apart from those steps listed earlier but still that doesn't always work for people.

The game folder being read only is a possibility only if you save again and it is still .tmp but you have enough space left. Then you might would look into permissions of the folder. You said you saved and was as .ess after having more space.

Don't get rid of the saves though as I might find a way to get them usable. But if not then you sadly would do that 4 hours over or quest you did apart from the Soul Cairn.

Ok, So I'll wait for your response. Thank you so much for helping me!

The tmp files are unfinished saves. Meaning infinite loop cause it has no data to fully load. It would be missing args like (misc, pack, etc) these are object in a save that define what is already done, loaded, and NPCs around you. Mods will be listed in a save as well.

Since it is an unfinished save file with maybe no more than 200kb where as a full skyrim ess save is around 5mb. You'd be missing your character information and location cell stats. With no luck of finding out how to fix this or any other information you would have to load a previous save and redo your progress that wasn't saved.
