Bleak falls barrow/ Arvel the swift glitch
Currently running into a glitch where Arvel the swift stays floating in the air and has no dialogue to progress the quest. Wondering if anybody has a work around for this?

Just kill him and loot his body. His journal will advance the quest.

Tried that, seems he doesn't have any hit detection as weapons and spells pass through him

You don't even need the journal just the claw, doesn't help though because he still needs to die. Have you tried the "kill" command. Normally I'd advise against commands but kill is generally safe.

Yes, tried the kill command and nothing happened. Think I might try to reload a save prior to entering the dungeon and if that fails I might try the setstage command as a last resort

try spawning in another arvel and see if that works

Absolutely DO NOT spawn Arvel in, it just creates a duplicate, and now the game sees TWO of the same NPC, and the scripts affecting this character now have double targets, messing up the game AI royally.

Player.placeatme
From: http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Form_ID
"...the command player.placeatme <BaseID> will create a new copy of an object and place it at the player's position. This is fine with most items or generic creatures. With unique NPCs however, a second copy will usually cause problems with quests and such.

You could try using recycleactor on him, as that does refresh the character (and, as always when using a console command, make a manual save first, just in case), but your best option (as it always is in these cases) is to just roll back to a previous save.

Did you actually cut him down from the spider webs?
As that often needs lots of sword cuts around him or several fireballs.

Still looking on a possible fix for this. If you cut him down he just remains floating up there

Have you tried reloading a previous save?

As far as I know you only need two swipes with your weapon, sword, mace, or ax to free him. At least that is all I have ever needed. First swipe he says "It's coming loose, I can feel it" second swipe frees him and off he runs telling you he is not going to share with you. Of course you must start the dialogue with him first.

I have played through this scenario at least twenty times in the last nine or ten years and that has always been the case.

I know its been a long time since this was posted, but has anyone figured out a fix? I also have sever arachnophobia and really don't want to disable the mod if I can avoid it. I've tried the following commands with no results: disabling then enabling. 'recycleactor", and 'kill'. Looting him through commands doesn't work either. He just keeps asking me to cut him down even though there are no cobwebs to be seen

As I posted in response in the other thread:
Please start a new thread - this one is very old, and no one will see your question,. and if they do, they'll be confused by everything else posted here. Thanks!
