Any good early weapons?
Im going to start a new playthrough as a really tank like warrior. So does anyone know of any good melee weapons (most wanted is onehanded cause I will use a shield) that I can get before the first dragon that you kill or before the greybeards?

You won't find anything special at that point, just a basic Steel sword. You might luck out and pick up an Orc blade somewhere, but that's about it.

I was actually thinking of an orc blade as well. The one just outside Whiterun in the pond in the skelleton's hand (lady of the lake ester egg/reference I think). Probably one of the better blades when starting a fresh.

You could join the companions and get a sword from them.

It is possible to get the Bloodskaal blade fairly early. Its what I try on a new playthrough. With a couple mods, it is even easier. :D

That's not necessarily an Orc Blade, it seems to be a levelled sword you can get. There's been a few times where I've only gotten a Steel Sword from it.

That's actually a good point, I forgot about that. A Sky Forge Steel Sword is one of the best you'll get for awhile, almost as good as Ebony. It's not easy to come by though, that quest can be pretty challenging.

Elven actually. Not to mention that's it is as light as Steel.

In fact on my first playthrough, I finished the game with a Skyforge Steel blade even though I have access to Daedric weapons. Sentimental reasons of course.

Base damage of a bound sword isn't too bad though may not be the right "fit" with your tank. Bound sword is also very light :steamhappy:

Which is almost as good as Ebony. Plus the fact that you can upgrade it a lot better than anything else up to that point because it's Steel. It's not until I start getting Ebony weapons that I finally get around to replacing it as my main blade, and I'll still hang on to it as my backup.

But isn't it so that sword will be a better sword or something if you go there later in the game when you are higher level?

All you have to do is pay 250 gold to get to Solstheim at any level.

Once in Solstheim, head out of town from the exit near the docks and proceed down the road.

You will come across someone fighting three ash spawn.

There is one Redoran Guard laying dead on the ground. Loot his body and obtain a set of Bonemold Armor, an Elven Sword, and Elven Bow.

Just remember to save your game before exiting town and do not fight the ash spawn. They will kill you in one or two hits. Also do not go to sleep or explore any of the large glowing stones with people around them, as it may start the Dragonborn questline.

Instead let the guy fighting them fight until he goes into bleedout, then the ash spawn will chase you. Lure them back to town, but don't get to far ahead of them and let the Redoran guards finish them off for you.

Make sure to loot the ash spawn bodies for a note, if you read the note it will start a quest. I usually wait until much later to read it. If y ou don't loot them for the note you may loose the quest when they despawn.

Also while in Raven Rock, speak to Glover Mallory and obtain his Ancient Nordic pickaxe, but do not return it to him. Instead keep it and use it to mine with as the pick axe is a quest item until you return it and will be weightless until you do.

At level 9 you can do the Cursed Tribe to get one of the best 2-handed weapons in the game called the Volendrung. It has the same base damage as a Daedric Battleaxe but i think it swings faster. Also has a 50 point stamina absorb enchantment.
