Missed the part about 'upon first arrival in Riverwood' On the other hand, during Forgotten City, I found a dead NPC. No place to fall from, and murder isn't possible without consequences. Faendal could have been killed by a spider that ran off with arrows in it, or lightning I guess. Finding a dead named NPC in Oldrim is as common as finding snow.. Archers don't survive for very long in Skyrim, anyway.
In one quest in a barrow helping some woman, Lydia and Inigo got into a firefight with her and killed her, failing the quest. Actually that might have been SE.
I try to remember to take screenshots when I see weird stuff.
Like when a dragon attacked Meridia's beacon during the transition that starts the actual quest and kept the quest from staring.
